12th October, 2006: French beauty company L’Occitane has chosen World Sight Day 2006 to announce the launch of a charitable Foundation, which has committed €3million over 5 years to its projects. Launched in the 30th anniversary year of L’Occitane, the Foundation’s objectives are true to the spirit and values of the company:

- To support projects which help those who are blind or suffer with sight impairments
- To support projects which allow women in developing countries to gain an income or become more independent
- To encourage the preservation of the “Knowledge of Nature” in Provence

With Braille labelling on many products, a history of working with ORBIS (the charity which aims to eliminate avoidable blindness) an established fair trade agreement with a women’s group in Burkina Faso and an employee association ‘Provence dans tous les sens’ which helps sight impaired people learn about fragrance, many of these objectives are not new...
