Running an independent outlet or small chain brings many advantages. It allows you to run and build your own business and, for many, gives an opportunity to fulfil a dream.

On the other hand, resources are usually much tighter than they are for the large national “managed” chains. For instance, most national chains will have access to a mystery shopper scheme that gives valuable feedback from a consumer’s perspective. This allows them to build on what they do well and deal with problems before they lose customers to their competitors.
