Jim Taylor from Modern Mix is backing a government initiative to revise the licensing exemptions currently exploited by volumetric concrete trucks.

Since 2014, the Department of Transport has been gathering responses to its enquiry into Goods Vehicle Operator Licensing Exemptions and the legalities around volumetric trucks have been one of the most highly debated topics.

DfT are investigating the issue of volumetric trucks exceeding their licensed weight. With their current classification as a mobile batching plant, they are licensed up to 32 tonne. However, once loaded with raw materials, they can weight upto 46 tonne, well in excess of what they should legally be allowed to carry on the road.
