PERFECT STRENGTH OF BREW REVEALED ACCORDING TO TEA LOVING BRITS

Tea Shade Scale Premier Inn

What’s the perfect strength of tea?

Friday 21st April is the official day of tea (AKA National Tea Day). Hurrah!

So, to celebrate the nation’s insatiable love for the great British cuppa, Premier Inn has spoken to 1,000 tea-loving Brits across the UK to find out which city drinks the most tea, and to settle one of the most important debates of all time: What’s the perfect strength of tea?

OUR FAVOURITE TEA STRENGTH
With over 14 million cups of tea being consumed in its hotels every year, Premier Inn knows a thing or two about how the nation drinks its tea... And, it can now reveal what the perfect strength for a cup of tea is according to Brits, with almost half the nation saying cup number three from our tea chart is the optimum strength for them. Do you agree?

HOW MUCH TEA WE DRINK

The British stereotype of being obsessed with tea still stands strong: collectively as a nation we consume 205 million cups of the stuff EVERY DAY! The research also revealed other fun facts for your tea break:
1. The amount of tea Brits drink in a year would fill 50,000 swimming pools. FIFTY THOUSAND. (If you laid those swimming pools back to back they’d stretch for 1,250 km… which is roughly the same distance from London to Vienna)
2. In London, every day 25.9 million cups of tea are enjoyed – in a year that would be enough tea to fill up the Big Ben Clock Tower 500 times
3. On average people in Glasgow drink the most tea each day – 3.62 cups to be precise, and over a third (35%) drink at least five cups a day
4. Edinburgh’s the city that’s most likely to opt for the strongest tea in our tea chart – one in seven said cup number one would be the perfect strength for them
5. A quarter of people in the UK drink at least five cups of tea every single day
