Fluenta appoints new Engineering Director to lead new product deployments

Bird will initially focus on the launch of the newest product in the Fluenta flare gas meter range, the 160X

Fluenta, a global leader in ultrasonic measurement and management technology for the Oil & Gas Industry, today announces the appointment of Dr Neil Bird as Engineering Director to lead Fluenta’s Research and Development (R&D) and engineering activities.

Bird will initially focus on the launch of the newest product in the Fluenta flare gas meter range, the 160X, which offers enhanced transducers allowing accurate measurement of flare gas in more environments, including extended high and low temperatures from -220ºC to +250ºC.

Bird brings a wealth of high level expertise to the role having held a number of technical directorships at companies such as Xaar, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Philips. Bird has been managing R&D and product development groups since 1999 where he has worked on the development of a variety of technologies including liquid crystal displays (LCD), micro electrical mechanical systems (MEMS), optics, wireless, and the development and standardisation of 4G.

Sigurd Aase, CEO of Fluenta, comments: “Fluenta is committed to full investment to match the changing nature of the market and accurate measurement is crucial for the development of loss reduction best practice.”

“Neil’s impressive combination of high level technical knowledge and R&D management experience means he is ideally positioned to take up a strategic leadership position with Fluenta, both for what the company is doing now and what we are planning for the future.”

Bird commented, “Fluenta encourages active involvement of leadership in the technical aspects of product development and I am looking forward to becoming far more ‘hands on’ as we bring an exciting new pipeline of products to market.”

Bird holds a PhD in Physical Electronics from Universiteit Twente in the Netherlands, a Masters and Bachelors degree in Physics from the University of Oxford, and previously spent a six month sabbatical touring the UK as a Faraday lecturer to mark the 200th birthday of Michael Faraday.
