Centerprise International - the Basingstoke-based £127m custom PC manufacturer - has for the second year running scooped a Deloitte & Touche Fast 50 Technology Award as one of the 50 fastest-growing companies in the South-East of England. Centerprise won the award for the outstanding 178% growth that it has achieved over the last 3 years, in which its turnover increased from £34m in 1997 to £97m in 1999. This year’s Awards saw Centerprise moving up in rank from 36th to just 18th in the 50-strong list of Fast 50 companies.

Centerprise International began trading in 1983 with a capital investment of just £100,000 and having prospered during the recession has experienced significant growth within the commercial and education sectors. Utilising the latest developments in Intel microprocessor technology, the custom-built range of future-proof PC products available from Centerprise includes palmtops, notebooks, ruggedised laptops, desk-tops, networks, monitors, peripherals and software, as well as accessories. Comprehensive services include pre-sales advice, delivery, after-sales support, nation-wide engineering teams and a telephone support facility.

Clients include Unipart, The Ministry of Defence, Local Government Departments including 60 Regional Councils and 12 County Councils, the NHS for the South West, the South East and the Thames Valley, and 70 Universities across the UK, as well as leading companies within the pharmaceutical, telecommunications and retail markets. In the education sector, Centerprise was selected as one of the key suppliers in the £20M DfEE Computers for Teachers Initiative, is a BECTa-approved National Grid for Learning (NGfL) Managed Services 2001 Supplier of ICT equipment for schools and was responsible for supplying in excess of 7,000 notebook computers under the BECTa Portables for Teachers Initiative.

Commenting on his company's success, Rafi Razzak, Managing Director, Centerprise International, explained that the tailoring of I.T. solutions to meet a customer’s specific needs, accompanied by the ability to react quickly to changes in technology, as well as to manage stock holdings very efficiently is enhanced by the fact that all machines are custom made on site in Basingstoke. "Further success is achieved by providing products and services with a price performance combination that cannot easily be matched, and all efforts are underpinned by an impressive financial stability", says Mr Razzak.

He continued, "I was absolutely delighted to receive the Deloitte & Touche Fast 50 Award for the second year running - it’s a credit to our 250-strong workforce who pride themselves on delivering the very latest in high quality IT solutions to extremely tight deadlines. Credit should also be given to them for their help in securing the International Peak Performer Business of the Year Award, presented at last year’s Gartner Group System Builder Summit in the USA, for the prestigious title 'The KPMG Company of the Year' in the Hampshire Business Awards 2000 and for helping to make me the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year of the Southern Region. A big thank you to all concerned!"

The third annual Fast 50 programme tracks the growth rates of technology companies between 1997 and 1999 in seven regions in the UK and Ireland, culminating in a national ranking in May 2001. This year, in London and the South East, it is co-sponsored with techMARK, the London Stock Exchange market for technology companies, Investec Henderson Crosthwaite and Kettlefish.
