Pixology develops Kodak Picture Page Software for printing of digital pictures GUILDFORD, ENGLAND, Eastman Kodak Company and Pixology Software & Systems have reached an agreement where Kodak will ship Kodak Picture Page software, which is based on Pixology’s Piccolo Image Management technology, with its new line of Kodak Personal Picture Maker inkjet printers. The software also connects to Print@Kodak, Kodak’s new Internet photofinishing service.
Customers can use the software to view, enhance and organize their digital pictures into personalized album pages called Kodak Picture Pages. Featuring an easy-to-use drag-and-drop interface, the software lets consumers create an 8½-by-11 Kodak Picture Page that they can print on the Kodak Personal Picture Maker 200 and 120 models, both by Lexmark. The Kodak Picture Page software gives consumers complete control over the size and placement of each photo, and it lets them add descriptive captions to each picture. Best of all, it gives consumers a quick and fun way to organize their pictures into durable albums they can enjoy and share.
The announcement is significant for the company - it represents a major step forward for global recognition of the software expertise that resides in firms such as Pixology in the United Kingdom, not least in the rapidly emerging digital imaging market, which is expected to grow very considerably over the forthcoming decade. It also represents a real recognition on the part of a leading photographic player that the marketplace is moving towards the provision of integrated digital imaging packages for consumers. This has been driven by the fact that the technology is now comparable to traditional roll-film and superior in terms of its editing capabilities, flexibility and distribution of images.
"Digital photography offers many advantages," said Lord Young, Pixology chairman and former U.K. government Trade & Industry Secretary, "including the ability to view and select pictures before printing them. Now, through our agreement with Kodak, personalized photo albums are easier than ever to create. I now expect digital cameras to become the norm. This deal with Kodak is a further step toward our goal of making Piccolo technology available to all digital camera users worldwide."
Kodak chose Piccolo technology after a global search for a proven image management software product that could be modified quickly to meet its needs for the home printing market.
"We are excited about the potential this opens up for consumers," said Walter Wafler, general manager, Output Products, Digital and Applied Imaging, Eastman Kodak Company. "Kodak and Pixology are making it easier for consumers to organize, share and print their pictures at home. The Kodak Picture Page software is advanced, yet easy to use, and gives consumers more ways to use their pictures at home."
"We are thrilled to have been selected by Kodak to provide them with our image management technology" said Yuval Yashiv, joint managing director, Pixology. "We believe that digital photography offers people new ways to use and print pictures and we hope that through the use of our solutions Kodak will lead in offering consumers a new and innovative way to enjoy their pictures."
How It Works
Once installed, the Kodak Picture Page software recognizes any camera memory card inserted in a card reader or can be pointed at any other pictures folder. Then, the software auto loads and retrieves and displays thumbnails of the pictures making it simple to locate, edit, share and print pictures from digital cameras at home. Consumers can then simply drag and drop their pictures into one of several templates to create albums or use the photo-editing functions.
