London, 19 December, 2000, - M4 Data, a leading designer and
manufacturer
of tape drives and tape libraries, today announced the addition of Super
DLTtape technology to its tape library product range. This announcement
follows on from Quantum's recent announcement of availability of Super DLTtape drives.


Super DLTtape more than doubles the DLTtape specifications to 110GB
native
capacity and a transfer rate of 11MB/s. This enables M4 to offer
customers 2.64 TB of native/uncompressed capacity in only 4U (7 inches)
of
rack space using their 24 cartridge autoloader, MagBak and up to
79.2GB/h
throughput using both drives in a single MagFile library. Super DLTtape
also offers backward compatibility within existing DLT drives and media.
The MagFile family was designed to be field upgradeable as new drive
technology is released thus allowing the customer to achieve maximum
investment protection from their original purchase.
Super DLTtape uses Laser Guided Magnetic Recording (LGMR) technology,
which combines optical and magnetic technologies to significantly
increase
the number of tracks on a tape. It delivers improved performance and
reliability that customers are demanding as their data storage
protection
and archiving needs continue to expand.
