Newest Data Access Product Boosts Performance and Efficiency

Sybase today announced the general availability of
OmniConnect 11.5, a connectivity solution aimed at
increasing the performance and reach of data access while
improving the ease of use of enterprise database systems.
OmniConnect 11.5 is the latest upgrade to Sybase's
middleware connectivity solution that provides users
transparent access to a broad range of corporate data,
making enterprise data appear as one database.

The new version of OmniConnect preserves the customer's
investment by providing access to third-party databases
including those from IBM, Oracle, Informix, Microsoft, and
other vendors. Supporting the open environment,
OmniConnect's write-once, display anywhere capability
provides ease of deployment.

OmniConnect 11.5 offers seamless access to the widest range
of corporate data regardless of physical location, data
type, database dialect, or network protocol," explained
Richard Harvey, database and middleware product marketing
manager for Sybase UK. "Because OmniConnect is an open
solution which is interoperable with other vendor databases,
the customer is spared the expense and resources of
replacing their current systems to maintain compatibility."

Easy Access to Disparate Databases Large organisations must
provide easy access to data in a wide variety of locations
and disparate databases across the enterprise. Programmers
can take advantage of OmniConnect's flexibility to build
applications that work across multiple databases. Sybase has
implemented several additions and improvements to the new,
high performing version of OmniConnect:

Quickpass increases SQL passthrough to remote targets,

Joins are optimised to occur in the native database when
possible,

SMP support provides the processing power of multiple
machines because multiple users can now share OmniConnect,

Array Binding allows users to bring back large blocks of
data rather than one row at a time, which increases
performance and efficiency,

Access Server Class provides partners with a toolkit to
build access for specialised data stores,

GUI Front end improvements provide a seamless and single
view of third-party data, making it easier to get results.
