...Veteran Software Executive Joins Hyperion Senior Management Team...

LONDON, UK and SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 05, 2001 - Hyperion, (Nasdaq:
HYSL), a leader in business analysis software, today announced the
appointment of John Kopcke as Chief Technology Officer. Kopcke brings
more than 23 years of information technology experience to this position.
As Chief Technology Officer, Kopcke will be responsible for Hyperion's
internal technology architecture, technology development services, product
quality assurance, leveraging Hyperion's architecture with its key
partners, the development of the company's future technology direction and
the delivery of Hyperion's technology platform message.

Mr. Kopcke's specific areas of expertise include: software engineering
design and implementation practices; portable software development
technologies; online analytical processing (OLAP); database management
system (DBMS) technologies; and operating systems.

Mr. Kopcke joins Hyperion from Optio Software where he was responsible for
the company's product development organisation and oversaw all product
development for existing solutions as well as research and development for
new product introductions.

Mr. Kopcke's experience also includes CTO positions at Softlab, Inc., (a
BMW company), a provider of data management technologies and system
integration solutions and Pilot Software. While at Softlab, Kopcke
managed all software product development and technical direction. Prior
to Softlab, Kopcke served as chief technology officer for Pilot Software,
a subsidiary of Accrue Software. Previously, Mr. Kopcke founded Kopcke
and Associates, a software and development company, where he was
responsible for all product development at the Web-based and client/server
business intelligence solutions provider. Pilot Software subsequently
acquired Kopcke and Associates.

Prior to forming Kopcke and Associates, Mr. Kopcke held several
development management positions, including director of software
development at THORN EMI Computers Software (TECS) in Farnborough, UK, and
vice president of research and development for New Hampshire-based
Evaluation and Planning Systems.
