SBS LINKS UP WITH WESTICA Tuesday 16 January 2001 PDF Print Multirate Radio provides additional systems support Westica Limited, the pioneering developer of point-to-point advanced digital wireless transmission solutions, today announced a deal to supply SBS (Sound Broadcast Services) with their multirate radio products. As one of Europe’s leading broadcast systems integrators, SBS works with commercial and state owned broadcast stations internationally. This commitment provides SBS with the latest digital developments in digital wireless technologies ensuring reliable, high quality, transmission solutions. The Westica Multirate radio links have been deployed between the studio and the broadcast transmission site using APTX audio CODECs (Coder/Decoders). For SBS the Westica radios have proved to be a highly desirable alternative to leased circuits. Commenting on the deal, SBS’s Managing Director, Marcus Bekker says, "Radio link transmission solutions are significantly more cost-effective when compared to leased lines and are far more reliable within the local environment - cables are easily damaged by flooding or excavation work. Moreover, the Westica radio transmission equipment remains under the sole control of the radio station - this is not the case with leased lines." Bekker continues, "The product itself has demonstrated complete reliability and provides valuable, advanced features such as real time performance and diagnostic information - an advantage for problem solving should the need arise. We look forward to installing further links in the early part of this year." Commenting on the deal, Westica’s CEO, Chris Burnett, explains, "SBS has deployed the Westica 1.4GHz Multirate Radio System not only to improve transmission networks in terms of reliability, but to enable easy control and monitoring of all the links without the need for additional test equipment. SBS’s plan to install more links this year further demonstrates their faith in Westica and our products." About Westica Westica’s principal aim is to be a major strategic player in the emerging global telecommunications wireless infrastructure markets, through providing leading edge solutions backed by a world class quality and service culture. Support for this vision in the form of substantial institutional investment in recent years has accelerated the development of revolutionary technology leading to volume production and deployment of Westica’s multirate radio product in the 1.4GHz band.
