Solving the British Skills Crisis Tuesday 16 January 2001 PDF Print PARETO IQ GOES LIVE Leading IT education specialist InterQuad has teamed up with graduate placement organisation Pareto Law to launch Pareto IQ. Pareto IQ will select, place and train the very best graduates for technical posts within the IT and Telecoms industries. The new venture is the brainchild of InterQuad Commercial Director John Kauffman and Pareto Law Managing Director Andrew Sawer, who both identified the need for motivated, talented graduates with core technical skills to join the expanding IT sector. Pareto Law, the UK's largest selection and placement organisation for sales professionals in the IT and Telecoms sector, will select and place the graduates in top technical careers throughout the UK. InterQuad will then provide intensive vendor-focused training at its training centres in London, Thames Valley, Milton Keynes and Reading. John Kauffman, Commercial Director of InterQuad, explains: "There is a myth that we have a skills gap in the UK. We have a people gap, not a skills gap: there are not enough qualified technical people to provide the IT skills demanded by UK organisations. The partnership of InterQuad and Pareto Law takes advantage of the core competencies of two strong businesses to bring a unique solution to this problem. We'll provide people to fill the gap. We then need to create training as a continuum within organisations at the bottom end which continually enhances and hones skills." He continues: "InterQuad stands out from the crowd because we're continually innovating to provide the IT skills that modern organisations need. We'll continue to diversify and develop new services that give organisations the best technical specialists available." Pareto Law Managing Director Andrew Sawer adds: "Pareto Law currently places more than 50 top quality, highly-trained graduates a month in sales careers within the IT and Telecoms sectors. The development of our business to embrace the thousands of technical graduates who join the industry every year seemed like the obvious next step. InterQuad is a dynamic, professional IT training organisation and the alliance allows us to offer employers the best candidates, who have had first-rate training to enhance their core skills." Graduates with a technical bias will be evaluated by close scrutiny of their CVs and by online technical analysis to determine where their hard skills lie. They will then be invited to a specialist assessment day where their skill sets and personality type are carefully evaluated to allow Pareto Law to draw up a detailed candidate profile. Successful candidates from the assessment days are selected to be put forward for placement. Once placed the candidates then receive an intensive ten-day technical IT graduate foundation training course delivered by InterQuad. This classroom-based training develops existing skills and adds expertise in specific vendor topics. Pareto Law also provides a three-day course to enhance communications and presentation skills. The placed graduates will also join a long-term mentoring scheme which offers self assessment tools and online one-to-one technical advice via streamed video presentations and from our team of technical consultants to support them through their careers in the IT industry. The Pareto IQ team will be led by Pareto Law Managing Director Andrew Sawer and includes Sally Price, Richard Bryant and Joanna Thorne. The team will be based at Pareto Law's London offices.
