New Version of OnWeb Application Integration Software
Transforms Legacy Applications into Powerful e-Business Solutions

January 17, 2001 -- NetManage, Inc. (NASDAQ: NETM), a leading supplier of eBusiness access and application integration solutions, today announced the general availability of OnWeb version 5.0. OnWeb is the keystone product to NetManage’s portfolio of solutions that allow customers to extend their legacy information assets to support e-business processes.

OnWeb 5.0 is now the most complete solution on the market for integrating host applications and extending legacy information to the Web. Customers can create e-business solutions quickly and with low risk by using OnWeb to integrate data from existing host systems and legacy applications, and then add powerful business logic and deliver the data to any web browser, PDA, or WAP-enabled wireless device.

"The worldwide demand for the products that allow organisations to leverage mainframe and midrange information into e-business applications is increasing," said Lucinda Borovick, Program Manager for International Data Corporation (IDC). "In the race to extend these legacy systems, OnWeb 5.0's phased approach provides a solid foundation for achieving strategic e-business goals."

According to IDC statistics, the worldwide market for Application Integration Software such as OnWeb 5.0 and others will reach $8.9 billion by 2004 - driven in large part by the e-business requirements of the significant installed base of mainframe and midrange customers.

Alberta Treasury Branches (ATB), the ninth largest financial institution in Canada, is a recent NetManage customer using OnWeb to develop e-business applications.

"We have two goals for our new e-business banking system," explained Sheldon Dyck, vice present of business financial services at Alberta Treasury Branches. "First, we want to ensure that our current customers have a flexible and accessible banking and cash management system that serves their needs. Second, we want to leverage the benefit and value of this new e-business approach to banking to win new customers and increase our market share."

In addition to Alberta Treasury Branches, NetManage counts hundreds of customers for OnWeb, including Merrill Lynch, Met Life, Atlas Van Lines, Avis Rental Cars, Otis Elevator, Mercedes Benz, and the California State University system.

OnWeb 5.0 is the only solution on the market today offering real-time software developer support through its embedded SupportNow feature. OnWeb 5.0 is also a true zero-footprint e-business solution, which means that it does not require any client-side software and can be used anywhere, anytime through any standard browser or compatible device.

Visual Development

OnWeb 5.0 customers receive three core system components - one is the new visual development environment and methodology called OnWeb Designer:

1. OnWeb Designer: The visual development environment used to create OnWeb applications. OnWeb Designer’s whiteboard-centric development environment uses a true three-tier graphical representation as an approach to building applications. Multi-developer efforts are facilitated by Designer’s own Software Versioning System (SVS), allowing multiple developers to connect to the same server but not overwrite each other’s work. As a complete drag-and-drop multi-developer tool, OnWeb Designer simplifies the development process and significantly reduces the time and cost of application development and maintenance.

2. OnWeb Server: The runtime environment for business rules and web delivery.

3. OnWeb Administrator: The administrative environment for managing servers.

OnWeb Capability Levels to Meet Customer Needs

In addition to the Core System components, three capability levels enable OnWeb 5.0 customers to progress from simple conversion of host applications into HTML web pages, to new application creation and data integration all in one product. This phased approach allows customers to reduce complexity, risk, and cost as they implement their e-business initiatives:

· Level 1: Publishing

OnWeb’s publishing capabilities give customers an immediate web presence through dynamic translation of existing screen-based applications. These applications can then be given a new look by incorporating web-style graphics users have come to expect. Host information can be accessed via HTML, XML or WML in a browser or other user devices.

· Level 2: Integration

OnWeb 5.0 makes it easy to integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple legacy systems and databases to create new web-centric applications.

· Level 3: Development

OnWeb’s information objects can be used to incorporate powerful new business logic with multiple data sources to create new web-centric business applications.

OnWeb 5.0 can integrate data from any TN3270, TN5250, VTxxx, RDB/SQL/ODBC, COM/DCOM environments, plus additional environments such as Unisys via third party solutions. In addition, OnWeb will soon add many more data source connectors, including HTML, MTS, and MQ Series.

Applications can be delivered in HTML, XML, WML, or COM - for presentation within a browser or end-user device, or for use in another development environment. Other presentation connectors will be added, such as JavaBeans.

"It is imperative that companies have an e-business solution that integrates and maximises the years of investment in their host information systems in order to maintain their competitive advantage and bridge the gap to e-business," said Zvi Alon, president and CEO of NetManage. "OnWeb 5.0’s seamless integration of multiple host and database sources reduces customers’ time-to-deployment and gives them a tool to create robust e-business applications that leverage and extend their corporate information assets."
