Stand D02 - Hall 12, Hannover, 22-28th March 2001

London, 22 January, 2001 - M4 Data, a leading designer and manufacturer of
tape drives and tape libraries, announced today that it will be showing a
MagFile tape library unit equipped with LTO technology at CeBIT 2001.

LTO or Linear Tape-Open Technology is a new tape standard agreed by IBM,
and Seagate, which provides 100 GB of uncompressed data at 10-20 MB/sec on
single 4 inch cartridge. With its "open format" specifications, LTO
provides compatibility between different vendors' products, giving users
access to numerous sources of products and media.

"By adding LTO technology to the MagFile range, customers now have a real
choice of tape technologies, therefore ensuring that their library
investment is fully protected," said David Huntingdon, Sales and Marketing
Due to its highly modular construction and drive independent design, M4
Data's entire MagFile range allows for easy conversion to new drive
technologies including the new LTO Ultrium, a high-capacity tape format
specification, and SDLT (Super Digital Linear Tape) formats where

The Ultrium format, with its single-reel tape cartridge and wider tape
to maximise capacity, is aimed at the huge market for backup, restore and
archive data applications, generally found in network environments. Entry
level products are available below $10K and are fully scalable in
incremental stages up to 240 cartridges (48 TB compressed) in a standard
inch rack, providing the highest cartridge density on the market.

MagFile is the only tape library on the market providing true incremental
scalability, which allows the library to expand by sliding in modules,
whilst maintaining optimum performance, resilience and high availability.
