Annual Report on Global IP Telephony Market Shows Clarent Products Handle
Most Phone to Phone IP Telephony Traffic, With 31.6% Market Share

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., January 24, 2001 * IP communications solutions
provider Clarent(tm) Corporation (Nasdaq: CLRN) continues to lead the
in providing products that transmit phone-to-phone IP telephony traffic,
according to the new iLocus report* on the status of the global IP

The annual report, released December 20, shows that in 2000, Clarent
products handled 31.6 percent of the estimated 1.3 billion minutes of
phone-to-phone IP telephony minutes worldwide, increasing its leadership
from the previous two years and again coming in ahead of both Cisco and
Vocaltec. Clarent's phone-to-phone market share increased from its 29
percent market share listed in the 1999 report. The report also mentions
