...Device offers low noise performance without external bypass
ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a leading provider of power management
and broadband integrated circuits that enable mobile communication and
power the internet, today announced the availability of a CMOS Low Noise
Low Dropout (LDO) voltage regulator designed to improve the performance of
noise sensitive circuits in portable products.
With its low dropout voltage and small package size, the NCP500 LDO
regulator provides cost and space savings, and achieves its low noise
performance without the need of an external bypass capacitor.
"Performance and size are critical factors in the design of handheld
battery operated products," said Mitch Polonsky, analogue marketing
engineer at ON Semiconductor. "The NCP500 is the latest in ON
Semiconductor's line of CMOS LDO regulators to present designers with an
efficient and cost-effective way to maximise battery life in consumer
portable products. In addition, the introduction of this product
demonstrates the company's commitment to address the rapidly growing
consumer demand for higher performance portable electronics."
Operating within a voltage range of 1.8 volts to six volts, the NCP500
offers very low dropout voltage and other performance features such as an
enable pin and current and temperature limit protection circuits. Because
the device is available in a five lead SOT-23 miniature footprint, it has
been optimised for use in cellular handsets, handheld instruments, MP3
players and other portable consumer products. It is designed to work with
small, low cost ceramic capacitors and requires a minimum output capacitor
of one micro farad.
The NCP500 is offered with five different output voltages: 1.8 V, 2.5 V,
2.8 V, 3.0 V and 3.3 V. All of the versions are available in a 5 lead
SOT-23 package. Suggested resale pricing for each orderable NCP500 device
