...agreement objective to provide services based on localisation and personalised information services...

London 30 January 2001 - room33 S.A, the Madrid-based branch of room33, has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with leading handset manufacturer Siemens S.A in Spain. The purpose of the agreement is for the joint international promotion of mobile Internet services using technologies such as WAP, GPRS and UMTS.

Siemens S.A. and room33 will collaborate in the development and promotion of services based on localisation and personalised information for mobile Internet in Southwest Europe and Latin America.

Under the terms of this agreement, Siemens will integrate and distribute room33 platforms, applications and services, which include personalised information systems and services and communication and transaction services for users of mobile phones and other wireless devices.

Among the motives that influenced Siemen's selection of room33 was principally the ability of room33 to offer global services of an international nature that are compatible with any system (including SMS, WAP, Bluetooth, GPRS and beyond), in addition to being device-independent, meaning the room33 services are accessible from a variety of wireless devices (such as a mobile phone, PDA, Palm etc.). This will guarantee Siemen's client base access to a simple, practical and efficient solution, based on the latest technology.

"The agreement is particularly relevant for room33 because it demonstrates the confidence that a global leader like Siemens has in our mobile Internet services and applications," said Huw Hampson-Jones, CEO, room33. "It also reinforces the position of room33 as a key innovator in the development and provision of this new concept, with a range of products and services that reflect our understanding of the requirements of the mobile environment and our knowledge of wireless communication technologies".

"This undertaking helps consolidate the leadership position of the company as a supplier of services infrastructure," said Olalla Hernández, Director of the Mobile Internet Solutions Business Unit of Siemens S.A. "It will contribute to the market growth of mobile Internet platforms and applications, providing attractive and pioneering solutions allowing the provision of innovative new services."
