New research indicates that a place must be found for legacy systems in the ASP model

London, February 2nd 2001 - Recent research reveals that many IT departments view the integration of existing systems as a integral part of any ASP solution that they implement. The survey, which was co-sponsored by ASP enabler SevenMountains Software, shows that 58% of IT manager respondents would want any ASP solution to integrate with existing legacy systems.

Patrick Coates, Managing Director at SevenMountains Software explains: "Despite pressures from the IT industry to constantly upgrade and implement new technology, be it software or hardware, the truth of the matter is that no IT Director worth his salt is going to invest in an area where no business benefits are achieved. This fact was highlighted during the pre-Y2K phase and to many industry pundits’ dismay these older more reliable systems were simply debugged and allowed to continue their loyal service. ASPs will have to offer more than just the Windows based solution. This is something that many ASPs are aware of as interest in 7M Aspire bears testament to. It is a comprehensive solution for web enabling and integrating existing non-Windows based systems."

Dr. Simon Moores, Co-chairman of the ASP Community adds, "These results should surprise no one. It is not just the software packages themselves, but the investment that the company has put into them in terms of time, training and money. Many organisations will be looking to couple systems with which they are familiar with the advantages that can be gained through implementation of the ASP Solution. The ASP Community sees this as further evidence in the growth of awareness of the potential benefits of the ASP model."
