Identifies Potential Security Holes and Provides
Policy-Based Exception Reporting

Burnham, January 31, 2001 - Quest Software, a leading provider of application management solutions, today announced the immediate, free availability of Domain Detective, a reporting tool designed to help network administrators inventory users and groups on Windows networks.

With over 75 reports available, including detailed user and group security and other interrogation reports, Domain Detective efficiently queries a network and determines whether or not data is an exception to a defined policy or represents a security threat. This information is gathered and displayed in concise reports, giving the administrator a comprehensive, objective view of corporate IT and security policy conformance.

"Network administrators need a means to quickly assess the environment to ensure security protocols are in place and user and group permissions are not breached," said Simon Pearce, managing director at Quest Software (UK) Limited. "Domain Detective presents a network view of all users and groups, helps identify potential security holes and provides policy-based exception reporting. This type of information is not available from native tools."
With Domain Detective, reports can expose full user and group information, including account attributes, group memberships and administrative rights. Additionally, there is a separate category for security reports, highlighting such areas as unused accounts and accounts with no passwords.

Generated with industry-standard Seagate Crystal ReportsTM, output can be viewed on the screen or exported to a number of different formats. Armed with these reports, administrators and network security staff can address potential security holes and determine where other corporate IT policies are at risk.

Domain Detective is free and available immediately via download at Quest’s Web site Domain Detective is one component of Quest Software’s Microsoft solutions. For more information on Quest's Performance Solutions for Microsoft BackOffice, please visit
