BOUNDLESS TECHNOLOGIES LAUNCHES NEW, FEATURE-RICH CAPIO II THIN CLIENTS WITH EMBEDDED INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER Wednesday 31 January 2001 PDF Print Boundless Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boundless Corporation, today unveiled its latest offerings in the company's Capio II line of low-cost, thin-client computing devices. The new Capio II models 420 and 425 Windows-based Terminals (WBTs) are the first in the product line to feature a built-in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 web browser for local Internet access. The model 425 makes its debut today at the Citrix Systems Solutions Summit in Miami, Florida. Building on the fast, cost-effective Capio II hardware platform, Boundless has expanded its Microsoft Windows CE-based thin-client family to offer the ability to access web-based applications directly from the desktop instead of via the server, eliminating unnecessary traffic on the network and reducing server load, thereby boosting performance. With standard 16 MB of flash memory and 32 MB of RAM, both the model 420 and 425 offer support of multiple simultaneous sessions and permit local storage of favorite websites. Both models support the Citrix ICA protocol and Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and provide users with a choice of thin-client server solutions such as Citrix WinFrame and MetaFrame, as well as Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition and Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server. For those who require access to UNIX and other legacy applications, the model 425 also offers a broad range of popular text terminal emulations. Recommended list price for Europe starts at $567 for the model 420 and $641 for the model 425. "Today's launch of our Capio II 420 and 425 web browser models broadens our portfolio of thin clients to meet a wider range of customer needs," said Michael Oliva, managing director at Boundless Technologies, Inc. "The Capio II's flexible design permits the user to designate the terminal as an Internet appliance for direct desktop access to email and web-based applications and for general web browsing, or, if need be as a Windows terminal to simultaneously access a wide variety of server-based Windows applications. While the flexibility of the model 420 and model 425 enables users to custom tailor the thin clients to meet particular requirements, their low acquisition costs will permit our customers to affordably adopt or expand a thin-client computing solution." The Capio II models 420 and 425 feature on-board audio, dual USB ports, optional single/double serial ports, support for 10/100 Ethernet, a high 1280 x 1024 selectable resolution, and printer and touch-screen support, making them among the most feature-rich in their class. Both models are expected to be available in February. About Capio II and SAM The Boundless Capio II WBT is a low cost, zero maintenance thin-client device that empowers end users with access to applications that run on central servers as well as direct access to the Internet. The Capio II product family offers organisations a flexible thin-client choice that is right for their needs. All Capio II products can be customised to suit individual customer's requirements from bezel logos, documentation and packaging to tailoring technical functionality for specific applications. Boundless' Simple Administrator & Manager (SAM) software allows for central management and remote maintenance of client-side configurations thus reducing administrative costs and allowing busy network administrators to serve more users effectively. SAM's intuitive graphical interface incorporating Explorer-like windows adds to SAM's ease of use. Both the Capio II WBT and SAM offer end users the low TCO benefits inherent to server-based computing. About Boundless Technologies, Inc. Since 1969, Boundless Technologies, Inc.
