Wonderware To Acquire Scandinavian Distributor Wednesday 7 February 2001 PDF Print "Irvine, Calif., & Copenhagen, Denmark Feb. 7, 2001 - Wonderware Corporation announced today it has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire certain assets of Industrial Communications Group AS, its distributor in the Scandinavian countries of Europe." "The acquisition will enable Wonderware to sell its FactorySuite 2000 and MaintenanceSuite industrial automation software products directly to end users, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and value-added resellers in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The acquisition is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2001 for an undisclosed amount of cash. "The Scandinavian markets have always been very important for us, and our colleagues in these three countries have done an outstanding job in selling and supporting our automation software systems," said Joe Cowan, Wonderware president. "We have patterned this acquisition on our successful German operations, which similarly began as a supplier/distributor relationship and grew to our bringing them in-house as an integral part of the company. "This instantly gives Wonderware a solid organization to serve Scandinavian customers, with about 50 employees in the three countries providing sales, marketing, consulting services and technical support to more than 1,000 customers of all sizes," Cowan added. "The IC Group has been one of our most active distributors in offering system analysis and design services to their customers as well as partnering with key system integrators to then deliver those solutions. Our plan is to leverage their resources in this area to offer the same level of consulting services throughout our European, Middle Eastern and African regions." "The IC Group’s approach to consulting services dovetails nicely with our long term strategy to provide more services to clients around the world," Cowan noted. "They have especially strong domain expertise in industries such as dairy, packaging, steel and metals, pulp and paper, and the marine industries - with their list of key customers that includes industrial giants such as ABB, Tetra Pak, DLG, Dandy Chewing Gum, Rolls Royce Marine and ERA Steel." The new Wonderware operations in Scandinavia will be headed by Uwe Küppers, former national sales director of Wonderware GmbH, as the new Managing Director of Wonderware Scandinavia AB.
