PSINet will raise visibility of Internet services to new peaks

Cambridge, 7 February 2001 - Meri Braziel has been appointed managing director of PSINet UK, an arm of the global Internet Super Carrier. She takes over the company as PSINet experiences unprecedented growth in Britain, in its two core businesses; high-speed connectivity and hosted services. "My main responsibility is to manage the overwhelming expansion in the UK and Ireland." Referring to a 100 per cent increase in revenues in a market a long way from saturation, PSINet is rapidly strengthening its customer base in the Blue Chip arena, and the development of the Internet application market throughout the UK and Ireland.

Recent industry successes include the launch of a global multi-point videoconferencing service - a joint venture with Global VideoCom to create one of the first business-quality Web-based videoconferencing services.

"We are constantly adding to our product portfolio and working closely with strategic hardware and software partners to further improve customer offerings and maintain the high standards within our Hosting Centre", said Braziel.

PSINet faces stiff competition in both core businesses but Braziel is confident that the company will continue to make ground over its competition. "Unique is used too often in this industry," she suggests, "however, our backbone network is the only Frame Relay and ATM based IP network and the quality of service levels we can offer customers differentiates us from our competitors. Our consultative approach and vast experience of the corporate market place enables us to provide a first class service to over 100,000 businesses worldwide". The company also made a big investment last year in building its London Hosting Centre, underlining its commitment in the hosting services market.

"PSINet was one of the earliest companies to recognise the potential of the Internet for serving the needs of business," says Braziel. "So it’s entirely appropriate that PSINet should be one of the first ISPs in the UK to offer a combination of connectivity and hosted services."

Harry Hobbs, PSINet’s president of International Operations, states that Meri Braziel’s background makes her an ideal choice to head up the company’s UK division. ‘It is a great pleasure to have Meri join the PSINet team, as managing director of UK and Ireland. Her vast experience will be a great asset not only to our UK organisation, but also to Europe as a whole." said Hobbs.
