London, 14 FEBRUARY, 2001 - Today, Icon Medialab signed a co-operation agreement with SealedMedia to use its digital rights management (DRM) technology to seal and secure content online. SealedMedia is the only player in the market to present a cross-media solution for safe publication and distribution on the Internet that of text, music, videos and pictures. This agreement combines SealedMedia’s products and support with Icon Medialab’s consultant services for integration and adaptation into local systems.

"Our technology opens up brand new possibilities for controlled publication and distribution of material on the Internet," said Peter Kumik, managing director EMEA of SealedMedia. "We provide a key enabling technology that allows publishers and owners of digital content to effectively use the Internet to drive new business."

The market for DRM-systems is rapidly expanding. The research company IDC estimates the global turnover to be worth 300 billion USD in 2003. According to estimates made by Icon Medialab that would in mean three billion dollars for the Swedish market and six billion dollars for the entire Nordic market.

"DRM is a strategically important area for us," comments Thomas Hahn, consultant with Icon Medialab. "The strong growth we now see in the music and book industry is only the beginning. There will be a demand for the system from other industries as well, such as banking and financing, where we are market leading in security issues, and hospitals that will need to protect their patients’ journals. "

SealedMedia’s technology cannot only support a wide range of business models but at the same time is easy to use. By encrypting the information and providing controlled access to different consumers the intellectual proprietor can control the distribution. It is possible to control who has the right to read the document, print it or pass it on, and when they are allowed to do so. Depending on the type of access privileges the consumer holds, they will be possess a different key.

"The agreement with Icon Medialab is an important part of our commitment to the Swedish market," said Kumik. "We have the products and the support. The co-operation with Icon Medialab enables us to integrate the products with existing systems and adapt them to local administrative routines."
