A unique breed of business software is launching today (15th February 2001) that enables buyers and sellers from nearly any industry - from vintage cars to fine art; from container ships to commercial property - to save time and money by trading direct.
Search.com plc’s groundbreaking technology uses mirrored databases to search simultaneously for buyer and seller requirements on up to 170 specified criteria. The system, which has been developed for Search.com plc by Thinc! Digital Media, can also search for a percentage of total accuracy, to allow for greater variances should they be desired. The software searches for matches continuously - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - automatically emailing both parties when a match is found. No human intervention is required and the system can be accessed both on-line and through email.
SEARCH.COM PLC TECHNOLOGY IN USE BY GLOBAL SHIPPING INDUSTRY
The power of the technology has already been demonstrated through the launch of Ship-Search.com, a FREE global trading system for shipping professionals, which matches charter requirements, ships sales and cargoes, to vessel capacity and availability. Up until now this £200 billion industry, which carries over 90% of world trade and runs 12.5 million shipping fixtures annually, has relied on brokers to circulate buyer and seller information.
Ship-Search.com was soft launched on the 6th December and 39,045 visitors have already searched the rapidly expanding database, with 50 companies receiving automatic emails matching their requirement or vessel and putting them directly in touch with the other user to conclude their business.
Ship-Search.com is backed by Informa Group plc, publisher of the world's leading shipping newspaper Lloyd's List, and launched with the world's complete database of 22,000 company and 87,000 vessel records already integrated (the vessel data was supplied by Lloyd's Maritime Information Services Ltd). This enables ship owners to use the site without having to go through the lengthy process of inputting their ship's specifications.
Search.com plc is intending to develop the software into recruitment (recuitment-search.com) and property and will still be offering the entire system free of charge to users. The software has been built for easy transfer into these business sectors and the company expects to be live at a nominal cost in new sectors within the next few months. The company also plans to develop the software into the luxury yacht market, aircraft charter and freight sectors to continue with the Ship-Search.com transport theme
Search.com plc will then be franchising its database software to businesses in other industry sectors, in return for shares and capital. The company will supply tailored software alongside the existing Search.com plc brand and a relevant industry domain name. The range of possible applications is enormous and over 200 names have been registered, from fineart-search.com and commercialproperty-search.com to hotelroom-search.com and stamps-search.com.
Commenting on the software launch, Paul Crowther, Chairman of Search.com plc said, "Our technology can be applied to any business that relies on a broker or intermediary to provide the link between buyers and sellers. Large databases of market information already exist in most business sectors and so the route forwards for us is not to launch our own sites in these areas, but to utilise other company’s expertise, by franchising the software. We are currently in discussions with companies in the commercial property and classic car markets, but the applications are endless".
