Leading Retailer Reaps Benefits Of Streamlined Scheduling

XcelleNet Inc, a world-class provider of management and polling software for retail store systems, has announced that Clarks, world-leader in the casual footwear market, has chosen XcelleNet’s RemoteWare to manage sales figures throughout its stores in the UK & Ireland, by remotely automating the collection and exchange of retail data.

Founded in 1828 as a sheepskin slipper manufacturer, Clarks footwear now sells into 150 countries and has over 600 retail stores in the UK and Ireland alone. As a dedicated brand investing more in product innovation and expansion, Clarks required a solution that could support its increasingly complex product-base. XcelleNet’s offering had the flexibility of being tailored to Clarks’ sophisticated polling communication requirements.

Previously, Clarks was using a bespoke polling system, which proved time consuming and less accurate. As its information volumes increased, tighter control was needed to enable stores to be polled on a regular basis during the evening. Clarks also required flexibility in determining which stores were to be polled in order to ascertain problem areas of the sales operation and to fix them with speed.

Clarks Retail Services Manager, Alistair Smith, explains, "We wanted to evolve our communications infrastructure so that polling could be done remotely with less need for maintenance. To develop our brand, we needed to invest in higher levels of customer service. RemoteWare was unique in that it offered a scheduling service, which could collect information from global sites without interfering with credit card authorisation and daily retail activity. We now boast a polling success rate of over 99% and have clear nights, where all data has been retrieved successfully."

He continues, "Although we outsourced the polling operation, it has cut down the total cost of ownership as less people are needed to maintain it. This has enabled us to dedicate our time to our key business - our customers."
