Original Software's SimuSys400 Enhanced For Faster, Easier Systems Design

Original Software, leading provider of developer solutions to the AS/400 marketplace, has announced the release of version 2.0 of SimuSys400, an AS/400 systems design and application prototyping solution. The release heralds a new era in AS/400 application design, enabling the automated creation of working simulations to demonstrate new programs to users and clients - avoiding the need to rely entirely on a printed specification.

"In a recent survey that we conducted among leading AS/400 shops, nearly 80 percent of participating companies said that they do their own application design and development, and half of these still rely entirely on printed specs for sign-off," commented George Wilson, client services director for Original Software. "We thought that there had to be a more satisfactory method of dealing with this crucial IT function - especially with the increasing need for speed and efficiency and the tightening of resources in application development these days. Hence we've developed version 2.0 of SimuSys400."

SimuSys400 enables automatic creation and manipulation of AS/400 screens, including screen progression logic to allow a number of screens to be built into a working script. This simulation looks and behaves exactly like a real program, yet is wholly contained within SimuSys400, thus eliminating the need for coding or compiling. The simulation can be demonstrated to users, enabling them to understand exactly what they are getting before sign-off. Existing users include Sony, DHL and National Insurance Group (NIG).

"This approach to systems design makes so much more sense,' said Stuart Bishop, product development manager for Original Software. 'It gives users a true feel for what they are getting: they can interact with the simulation, move from screen to screen, enter data, see it stored, manipulated and passed between screens - and any changes to the simulation that are identified can be made there and then. It lends much more smoothness and confidence to the sign-off process and helps projects reach completion on time."

The latest enhancements ensure that all screen activity can be fully and accurately simulated - including the creation and display of appropriate error messages. SimuSys400 can also automatically create screen DDS and produce a printed specification document in MS Word.

SimuSys400 version 2.0 is available immediately from Original Software at £9750 for a limited period, with a full downloadable trial copy available on the company's web site,
