"Active Mentoring" Helps Enhance Application Development Project Management

Princeton Softech today announced general availability of Process Director (TM), software designed to make projects controlled and predictable. Process Director substantially improves the process of application delivery through its active mentoring of all members of the development team, helping staff deliver IT applications on time and within budget. Princeton Softech is a wholly owned subsidiary of Computer Horizons Corp. (NASDAQ: CHRZ).

"Many project management tools are little more than online manuals," says Hedley Apperly, senior product marketing manager, Princeton Softech. "Process Director goes far beyond that: it is an active, dynamic part of every application development project. With its browser interface, XML repository and integration with Microsoft Project, Process Director is an active, living part of every development effort - and it enables the IT manager to identify the very best practices and institutionalise them."

Process Director offers a set of pre-packaged and configurable methodologies that support the most widely used approaches to modern application development. In addition, its 'Active Mentoring' facilities take project management to a new level. As projects are pursued, Process Director's XML-based repository is used to track progress, actively train team members in design and development tasks, document results and even point out ways to improve the underlying methodology. Recommended improvements to the methodology can actually be incorporated into the IT organisation's own standards for application development, thus enabling future development teams to benefit from lessons learned on prior projects.

"'Active Mentoring' is like having an application development expert sitting right beside you, providing guidance when needed," said Apperly. "It enables developers to work confidently on a project, knowing that any help they need is available immediately."

Process Director is also compatible with the ISO's Capability Maturity Model (CMM), a standard that many IT organisations seek to implement. But until now, no project management tools were available to support the evolutionary progress of IT groups, through the different levels of CMM. Process Director provides features that support and deliver practical CMM benefits such as:

· CMM level 2; Pre-packaged methodology documentation and active mentoring

· CMM Level 3; Process documentation, configuration and accelerated project
management

· CMM Level 4; Metrics Capture in the XML process repository

· CMM, Level 5; Process feedback loop to enable methods improvement

Process Director is available immediately. Pricing starts at £15,000 for a 25-user pack.
