CMG ADMIRAL LAUNCHES CMG:CROSS - A BULK FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Wednesday 21 February 2001 PDF Print CMG Admiral, part of leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services group CMG, has developed a software system called 'CMG:CROSS' to help oil companies and fuel distributors share the challenge of minimising cost and maximising efficiency across the supply chain. CMG:CROSS is a scheduling system which acts as an advanced decision support system. It considerably improves workload balancing overtime and optimises use of an oil company's own and third party vehicle fleets. CMG:CROSS regulates stock levels held at petrol stations and maintains high service levels. The system has provided up to a 15% reduction in distribution costs and up to a 40% reduction in stock levels. Another benefit of CMG:CROSS is its global useability - the system can be adapted to satisfy local regulatory requirements and to accommodate most languages. Cost pressures mean companies need the most efficient delivery scheduling possible. Competitive pressures and declining retail markets mean that oil companies and fuel distributors need to offset rising transport costs. They also want to help their customers reduce capital tied up in stockholding by providing just in time delivery without adversely affecting service levels. Shell International Petroleum Company Ltd recognised these business pressures and initiated the development of a new generation CMG:CROSS system around its existing order pre-planning, core scheduling and compartmentation algorithms. Shell knew it needed a single flexible solution that could reduce delivery costs and excess stockholding, while meeting the specific regulations and requirements of over 30 Shell operations across the globe. CMG Admiral was subsequently chosen as the exclusive distributor to market and sub-license CMG:CROSS. Commenting on CMG:CROSS, Len van der Westhuizen, CROSS Product Manager at Shell, said: "CMG:CROSS consistently justifies itself by driving down transport and inventory costs and increasing customer satisfaction. As a result of the development, implementation and support work done by CMG Admiral, Shell has enjoyed numerous benefits including significant reductions in distribution costs and stock levels." "It was important that CMG:CROSS was developed as a single scaleable solution on standard technology to minimise the support costs and to ensure future proofing," continued Len van der Westhuizen. "CMG Admiral delivered a fast, reliable, flexible system which could be tailored to meet the changing needs of dealers, tanker operators and consumers alike in all major countries."
