French Web Hosting Provider selects Auspex NAS data servers to improve the speed and reliability of its hosting services

System provides faster page downloads, high availability for firm’s 10,000 hosted sites

Aldermaston, February 23, 2001 - Auspex Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASPX), a provider of Network Attached Storage (NAS) server solutions, announced today that French web hosting provider Internet France has significantly improved response times and availability by switching from server-attached storage to the Auspex NS2000 family of network-attached storage appliances. The French firm selected the Auspex servers over competitive devices because of their ability to scale up to 9TB and also support customers operating on both the Unix and Windows NT platforms.

In addition to benefiting the 10,000 Web sites that currently use Internet France’s services, the Auspex storage system has facilitated the launch of a new higher-level service package designed to host critical applications such as e-commerce sites, online communities and workflow applications. Through dedicated processors that provide parallel processing of both network and storage tasks, Auspex servers have eliminated conflicts between application and storage workload that previously slowed response times and degraded service.

“Since we installed the Auspex system, our benchmarks consistently show that we are delivering page downloads several times faster than our main competitors and significantly better than we were able to achieve in the past with server-attached storage,” said Gabrielle Thevenot, Marketing Manager for Internet France.

“At the same time, the zero-downtime performance provided by the Auspex storage system has helped us to deliver a 99.9997% availability guarantee to our customers,” Thevenot said. “These are important advantages both for our traditional web hosting customers and for the newer e-application hosting we are providing through our Tenor service package.”

Auspex’s NS2000 server series is used by industries and enterprises to optimize storage management infrastructures, maximize file transfer performance and availability, and provide seamless file sharing between Unix and Windows NT clients. The system’s speed and high availability are achieved through dual-Intel processor motherboards that provide different and logically separate processing functions for network and storage operations.

Cross-platform file sharing is achieved through proprietary data-moving architecture that eliminates the need to route data through Windows NT servers or third-party emulator products. The system’s unique one-world file permission prevents unauthorized users from accessing protected Unix or Windows files across platforms.

“Web hosting providers and e-businesses rise and fall on their ability to provide swift and uninterrupted data access, and companies in these markets are increasingly turning to NAS file storage in general and Auspex in particular to meet these needs,” said Auspex President Michael S. Worhach. “The results that Internet France has achieved with Auspex servers are typical of the performance and availability advantages that we offer our customers.”
