The Anny Way WAP Server for Windows 2000 enables secure, stable, scalable low risk access to Internet and Intranet based applications and services
Wednesday, 28th February 2001, High Wycombe - MATERNA Communications today launches the Anny Way WAP Server for Windows 2000 providing mobile access to Internet and Intranet applications and services, seamlessly integrating Wireless Applications Protocol (WAP) with Windows 2000.
Windows 2000 integration
The Anny Way WAP Server fully integrates with Windows 2000 features and technology, from the Windows auto install set up and the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Snap-in technology to the comprehensive range of user access and security features including Active Directory Services, RADIUS server, SQL Server integration for billing and accounting.
This tight integration with 2000 ensures that the installation and management of the WAP Server is both fast and efficient. The Server is implemented and managed in exactly the same way as any other native Windows 2000 integrated service such as Routing and Remote Access Service (RAS) or Internet Information Service (IIS). So, for example, all Anny Way WAP Server events are recorded in the Event Viewer and its performance can be monitored by Performance Monitor just like any other Windows 2000 resource.
Michael Ohajuru, Sales and Marketing Director at MATERNA Communications expands: “What is really exciting about this launch is how easy the Anny Way WAP Server makes mobilizing any Microsoft application. It is a highly effective but low cost approach as it utilises the existing hardware and knowledge. The power around any mobile device will not only be accessing the Internet but accessing your own and your company’s information. You can now offer mobile access to every fixed or remote enabled application and more importantly the associated data within your organisation. This is expanding the frontiers of the corporate intranet.”
WAP Server plug-ins for content and applications
The Server provides not just the Gateway function of protocol conversion from WAP to HTTP and vice versa found in any conventional WAP Gateway but it also actually provides services direct to users. Applications, content and services can be quickly and securely mobilised through the use of customer-specific plug-ins written using content provider interfaces.
Plug-ins can be written using any object oriented programming language that developers are familiar with such as Visual Basic, C++, Java or C. The Anny Way WAP Server has a fully documented Software Development Kit (SDK) to assist in the rapid development of these content plug-ins. This allows the development of mobile (WAP) access to Exchange, Excel spreadsheets, Access databases and other applications and services.
Over The Air (OTA) configured handset
The Server includes an Over The Air (OTA) configuration facility so user’s handsets can be programmed centrally from the Server doing away with the need to manually configure up to 20 different WAP parameters, each of which can have over 15 alphanumeric characters.
The Anny Way WAP Server runs on any Windows 2000 certified computer. The base configuration recommended by MATERNA is a server with 800MHz processor and 256M RAM. The server can be accessed by Circuit Switched Dat (CSD) and any V.110 supporting RAS.
Pricing and availability
The Anny Way WAP Server for Windows 2000 is available now. Pricing starts at £1,000 for a 20 user licence. More information is available on the MATERNA web site at www.annyway.com.
