Cable & Wireless, the global telecommunications group, today (8th March
2001) announced the completion of a global frame relay network for
Baltimore Technologies providing data connectivity between Baltimore
Technologies' core offices worldwide. These sites include Tokyo, Sydney,
Boston and London, with Dublin acting as the IT hub. Ongoing business
expansion will mean that sites in Reading (UK), Toronto and Seattle will
shortly be added to the network.

The data network, completed in a record four months to keep pace with
Baltimore Technologies' rapid expansion worldwide, has accelerated users'
communication speeds between offices by up to 200 per cent. The
technology has also enabled staff elsewhere in the growing organisation to
access business-critical applications, run from the Dublin office.

Other benefits for the IT managers include more timely information and
improved reporting. Baltimore Technologies can now manage its own network
through Cable & Wireless' Customer Link website, in addition to having its
own dedicated account manager.

Extensive global network

Responding to rapid growth worldwide, Baltimore Technologies required a
fast installation of a flexible and efficient frame relay network that
would link its offices worldwide. Karl Howley, Vice President of IT at
Baltimore Technologies explained the decision to work with Cable &

"Cable & Wireless was the obvious choice. Its existing managed network is
the world's biggest and, with our ever-expanding global business, we
needed to take advantage of this. Its extensive network in Asia Pacific
was also important. But what really impressed us was its ability to
deliver an operational global network after just four months."

Fast connection times

Cable & Wireless installed a single network using managed routers to
ensure data moves quickly and securely through the entire organization.

"This has meant faster connection times for all our offices with Sydney
and Tokyo experiencing a 200 per cent increase in speed of connection
thanks to Cable & Wireless," Karl Howley explained. "Other improvements
brought about by the new network are better productivity, more timely
information and improved reporting. We can even manage our own network
via the Cable & Wireless Customer Link website."

Premium quality of service

Graham Ryan, director of business marketing in Ireland for Cable &
Wireless comments: "We are excited to work with Baltimore Technologies, a
global leader in e-security. We consider them to be a core strategic
partner and know that the network we have built for them has created a
solid communications backbone for them that can be expanded as they grow.
Central business critical applications now run from Baltimore's
headquarters in Dublin and can be accessed by all offices worldwide."
