IMERGE TO LAUNCH SINGLE ROOM SOUNDSERVER AT CEBIT Friday 9 March 2001 PDF Print HARD DISK-BASED AUDIO SERVER WILL REVOLUTIONISE HOME ENTERTAINMENT Imerge Ltd, Europe's leading hard disk media appliance technology innovator, is expanding its range by launching a brand new, single room version of its award-winning multi-room hard disk-based stereo audio server, at CEBIT on Stand A64 in Hall 9. The S1000 single room SoundServer builds on the success of the multi-room Custom Install product, targeting the broader hi-fi market through independent hi-fi retailers. The S1000 has been designed to complement existing hi-fi products in the home and features an anodised metal front panel for a super high quality finish. The S1000 will sit at the heart of a home entertainment system. A 30GB hard disk provides storage for up to 560 hours of music in MP3 format, in one convenient device and played back through conventional music systems, using standard in-room controllers. The S1000 is convenient and easy to operate with an all new TV interface. This enables the user to record or play music and even edit information in their music database, using the remote control and in the comfort of their armchair. CDs are recorded onto the hard disk in faster than real time and, utilising the embedded Internet functionality of XiVA software, the S1000 automatically connects to the CDDB Internet site for track listing information. The S1000 enables users to conveniently store and organise their entire music collections and, unlike CD jukeboxes, any music track can be found and played instantly. CDs can therefore be freed up to be used elsewhere, such as in the car. At the heart of every SoundServer is the Imerge XiVA software that is rapidly becoming the standard for the next generation of consumer electronics products that are hard disk-based and Internet-enabled. By using the power of a musical database, XiVA software makes the management of audio libraries simple and tremendously flexible. Music tracks can be stored and played back by album, track, artist or genre. The XiVA software takes care of playback, automatically selecting tracks from the entire music collection to fit the mood or style selected. Connecting to the net via the XiVA-Net portal, XiVA-enabled appliances will soon allow the automatic search and retrieval, from the Internet, of more music and information about favourite artists or music types and XiVA software will in future be upgraded online via XiVA-Net. According to Robin Courtenay, Sales & Marketing Director at Imerge, "The S1000 will capture the imagination of the hi-fi enthusiast who wishes to embrace the next generation of home entertainment that is Internet- enabled and allows sophisticated playback in a traditional lean back, relaxing way. The Internet connectivity will be increasingly used to deliver new features and services, such as finding music matched to your personal taste, through simple software upgrades without the need to change the basic hardware or compromise on audio quality."
