Web Transaction Breakdown Capabilities, Enterprise Java Bean Support and Enhanced Ease-of-use Added to Company's Flagship Testing Products

CAMBERLEY, SURREY - MARCH 13, 2001 - Mercury Interactive Corporation (NASDAQ: MERQ), today announced new versions of LoadRunner®, the industry-standard load testing solution and WinRunner®, its functional and regression testing solution. Performance, availability, reliability and scalability are critical for any organisation implementing enterprise or Web applications. LoadRunner 7.0 and WinRunner 7.0 advance the state of automated software testing products with new capabilities that help determine whether applications will perform as expected, and will maintain that performance with increased usage and rapid changes to content and functionality.

"Mercury Interactive's WinRunner 7.0 and LoadRunner 7.0 are powerful testing solutions," said Jeffrey Peter, Director of Quality Assurance for COVISINT, the automotive B2B exchange. "LoadRunner and WinRunner are key components of our testing practice. We continue to be impressed with Mercury Interactive's ability to evolve their products to keep pace with emerging technologies. It's great to work with a company that not only has great products but is fully committed to customer success and satisfaction."

Leveraging technology in Topaz®, Mercury Interactive's application performance management solution, the company has added a Web Transaction Breakdown Monitor to LoadRunner 7.0. With this addition, LoadRunner becomes the first testing tool to break down end-to-end transaction response times for the client, network and server, and provide the powerful capability to drill-down to the exact page component that may be causing performance slowdowns. In addition, LoadRunner users can now quickly and easily create scripts to test Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) components early in the development cycle.

With a focus on ease-of-use, WinRunner 7.0 provides a single solution for testing the functionality of the full range of enterprise and Web applications. In addition, WinRunner 7.0 supports testing the functionality of wireless or mobile Web applications, which are becoming more mainstream.

"With the advanced functionality in WinRunner 7.0 and LoadRunner 7.0, customers are able to maximise the performance of their existing applications without making additional investments in infrastructure," said Andy Crosby, Field Market Director Europe for Mercury Interactive.

LoadRunner 7.0's new Web Transaction Breakdown Monitor takes performance analysis to a new level by providing the ability to breakdown response times for the client, network, and server to isolate problems and drill down to pinpoint the exact component at fault. The ability to find and resolve problems quickly reduces overall IT costs by minimising problem resolution time and maximising the performance of existing environments.

In addition to testing complete applications, LoadRunner 7.0 supports the load testing of Enterprise Java Beans. These Java-based components run on the application server and provide a multitude of transactional services for mission-critical applications. By testing these components, developers can catch problems during the early stages of application development and save their organisations valuable time and resources.

LoadRunner 7.0 also offers the new Data Wizard, for the quick creation of data-driven test scripts. The Data Wizard imports desired data directly from a database into test scripts eliminating the need for tedious manual data manipulation. LoadRunner 7.0's new AutoLoad™ provides goal-oriented testing capabilities to build load scenarios based on user specified business requirements.

In an effort to maximise their existing resources, many organisations are choosing to embed Web technology within their existing client/server applications. To help ensure the reliability of the resulting "hybrid" applications, WinRunner 7.0 can now generate test scripts that seamlessly span client/server applications with embedded Web-based controls. This provides a single solution to functionally test the full range of applications in today's mixed enterprise environments.

WinRunner 7.0 also creates automated tests for wireless applications. In addition, several ease-of-use enhancements have been added to the product. For example, WinRunner's enhanced database verification capability allows users to compare information presented by an application with information in the database with just a few simple mouse clicks. WinRunner 7.0 also provides support for the latest Java toolkits, including Sitraka (formerly KL Group), Java Developer Kit (JDK) and Visual Café.

Scalability, reliability and performance are important issues when deploying an e-business application. Since Web application content changes frequently and traffic levels can change in a matter of seconds, testing for application scalability and reliability is critical to preserve an organisation's competitive advantage and ensure a positive experience for all end users.

LoadRunner, the industry standard load testing tool, predicts system behaviour and performance. It exercises an entire application by emulating the traffic of real users. Each of these users drives the application with real transactions while LoadRunner measures response times, network delays and application performance. Its integrated real-time monitors enable organisations to maximise the performance of their existing environments and lower costs by minimising problem resolution time.

WinRunner is an enterprise functional testing tool that verifies applications work as expected. By capturing, verifying and replaying user interactions automatically, WinRunner identifies defects and ensures that business processes, which span across multiple applications and databases, work flawlessly the first time and remain reliable. WinRunner provides not only a functional testing tool capable of testing applications across multiple environments, but a solution that is cost-effective and usable throughout the application's life-cycle.

WinRunner 7.0 is available now, and LoadRunner 7.0 is currently in Beta and will be generally available in April. Pricing for LoadRunner 7.0 starts at $40,000 (US) for a license of 50 virtual users, and WinRunner is priced at $4,995 (US) per seat. Both products are available on a wide range of platforms, including Windows NT, Windows 2000, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX and Linux.
