Essex County Council today announced that Syntegra, the consulting and systems integration business of BT, is to be its preferred strategic partner and supplier of information and communications technology services for the next seven years. The estimated contract value is £130 million.

Lord Hanningfield, Leader of the Council said: "This exciting project will allow us to deliver a wider range of services of even higher quality to the people and businesses of Essex."

Syntegra’s first task is to provide new internal networks and 7,500 computers for Essex County Council's employees and to deliver new personnel and payroll services.

For the longer term, Syntegra has proposed a comprehensive programme of work to transform all aspects of the council's business.

Dave Musson, Syntegra's director, Government said: "I am delighted that Essex has chosen Syntegra to help realise its vision. This important and public declaration of confidence in us strengthens Syntegra's position as a market leader in joined-up government initiatives which link local authorities, land and property registries, health and central government."

Contract negotiations are now underway and service is due to commence later this year.
