Perle will be launching its new product, the Perle CS9000 Console Server. Polaris project is a product for the Console Server Market.
A console server is a product that allows a network manager to remotely manage his servers and other network devices (Routers, RAS etc) by connecting the serial ports on these devices (console or management ports) to the console server. His then allows access to these ports via the console server’s network port. The administrator Telnets to the appropriate port on the console server and thus gains access to the attached device. In the event of a network failure the administrator can also access via a modem attached to one of the serial ports on the unit. This kind of access is called ‘Out of Band’ ‘Out of band management’ is the ability to access and manage devices without accessing the LAN. Many server and network product manufacturers provide an ‘out of band’ serial port for this very case.
