Straw poll at ProjectWorld highlights security issues for Project Managers Wednesday 21 March 2001 PDF Print 89% of project managers need to include external suppliers but only 37% consider secure access an important issue! London, March 21 2001 - A straw poll of attendees to ProjectWorld 2001 by Projectplace has highlighted security as a possible area of concern for today's project managers. Of those surveyed 89% revealed they need to liaise with external suppliers, but only 37% felt secure access was important. The survey also revealed that despite today's digitally aware businesses more the 66% of those asked admitted they still rely on face-to-face meetings to stay abreast of project activities. "With nearly 90% of respondents needing to involve external organisations on a project, there is a clear need for project members to be confident that access is controlled and limited to authorised people," said Dak Liyanearachchi, managing director. "Project managers must look at project management tools that offer the appropriate levels of security, or place their projects at risk." He continued, "I am also surprised at the high number of face-to-face meetings that seem to occur. However, our recent take-up figures indicate that project managers are beginning to turn to online project collaboration services such as Projectplace to save time and increase efficiency." Other results revealed that 82% already use a project management tool and that e-mail is currently the most popular way of keeping in touch with developments with a massive 87% using it - although many cited e-mail overload as a problem. 47% of projects involve more than 16 team members.
