…Sweden’s room33, remains at the forefront of mobile software and portal technology with the development and launch of new and enhanced mobile applications in time for CeBIT in Hanover….

London 22 March 2001 – Headlining the launch of the brand new services from room33, is Café33 – an application supporting mobile communities. The official launch date for Café33 is set for April and advance demonstrations will be available for visitors to Hall 26 Stand A40 at the CeBIT trade show public preview from 22-28 March 2001, in Germany.

room33 introduces the mobile community application as part of the latest version of the room33 Open Service Platform (OSPr33) solution for operators and enterprises. Café33 incorporates a range of chat functions, accessible from any device supporting WAP or Web clipping (Palm) technologies, in addition to the Web. Café33 also provides SMS messaging and notification functionality.

The OSPr33 solution enables operators and enterprises to add another dimension to existing services or build and deploy an own-brand mobile solution, powered by room33. A suite of mobile applications built on leading-edge portal technology; the new version of OSPr33 also features a new horoscope service and the addition of eight wireless games, in conjunction with games developer, Digital Avenue.

Enhancements to existing applications in the OSPr33 solution include increased functionality for the popular My WAP Page and upgrades to the Mobile Content Server for improved feed management and content delivery.

The CeBIT trade show will also see room33 demonstrate voice-enabled navigation on OSPr33 applications. This advanced functionality has been developed by room33 as part of the PipeBeach (speechWeb™) Application Partner Program. Built on the latest version of the VoiceXML standard, the live demonstration will show how voice commands can be used to browse and access room33 services and will also show how users can easily dial into the service using either a standard landline or a mobile phone.

At CeBIT room33 will also demonstrate its latest mobile billing capabilities in conjunction with its partner IP billing solution developer, Billiant. The demonstration will show how the room33 Open Service Platform and the Billiant platforms are integrated to automatically create billing records upon delivery of end-user services, execute real-time ratings, and prepare the records for hot-billing or periodic invoice creation.

“Exhibitions and trade shows present numerous opportunities for the development of key channel relationships and also put us in front of the operators and enterprises seeking effective mobile Internet solutions,” said room33 CEO, Huw Hampson-Jones. “Our OSPr33 solution offers a truly device-independent platform with a scalable and robust framework, with compelling and functional mobile applications that are fast, simple and easy to use. The room33 Open Service Platform allows a network operator to increase average revenue per user by increasing airtime and enabling the provision of high-quality mobile Internet services to end users.”

OSPr33 is based on open industry standards and has high-availability system architecture. It is compatible with current mobile systems as well as ’always-on’ IP-based mobile standards such as GPRS, EDGE and UMTS. The OSPr33 solution provides a template-based, device-independent application environment, accessible from a wide variety of devices such as WAP phones and Palm organisers. The framework also supports a plug-in concept for new components, whether developed by a client, room33 or a third party.
