IBM today enriched its award-winning ThinkPad line of notebook computers
with the introduction of new high-performance A, T, and X Series models
replete with a full complement of customisable UltraPort options. Select
models of the A and T Series are powered by the new Mobile Intel Pentium
III 1GHz (1) processor, the fastest processor ever available in an IBM

The new ThinkPad A Series models - the A22p and A22m - boast many of the
capabilities of a desktop workstation with the flexibility of a mobile PC.
Designed for mobile users who take their work with them, the new models
feature high-resolution screens as large as 15 inches, a big, comfortable
keyboard, expansion options and desktop-like functions such as superior
graphics capabilities.

The ThinkPad T22 provides an optimum balance of performance and
portability, offering the mobile user the latest technology in a thin and
light form factor. With a travel weight that starts at 2.4 kg (2) and a
14.1 inch TFT screen, the T22 is the lightest, high performance notebook
in its class. Select models of both the A and T Series are now available
with the latest Mobile Intel Pentium III processor featuring Intel
SpeedStep technology at 1GHz.

The ultraportable ThinkPad X21 features the latest low voltage Intel
processors that help extend battery life to nearly five hours (3).
Designed for road warriors who spend a significant time away from the
office, the X Series models start as light as 1.4kg and are about an inch
thin with a 12.1-inch TFT display.

Interchangeable accessories are common across A, T and X Series. An
UltraPort connector at the top of the display of select models gives
customers the flexibility of attaching innovative options without
cumbersome connectors. A USB adapter is also available.

IBM UltraPort options announced today include:

· New IBM UltraPort Digital Array Microphone, which uses advanced digital
signal processing to electronically eliminate background noise and deliver
clear acoustic and audio input.

· New IBM UltraPort IrDA Module, to help provide the convenience and
flexibility of infrared wireless connectivity.

· IBM UltraPort Camera II, which captures still images up to 640 X 480
resolution and video up to 320 X 240 at 30 frames per second.

· IBM UltraPort Compact Flash Reader, an easy-access option that supports
all popular Compact Flash media, including the optional IBM 340MB and 1GB
(4) Microdrives.

Pricing, Availability, Service and Support

The ThinkPad T22 models are available from mid-April. Prices start from
1776 UK Pounds. The ThinkPad A22m and A22p models are available from
mid-April with prices starting from 1424 UK Pounds. The ThinkPad X21
models are available from mid-April with prices starting from 1578 UK
Pounds. All models come preloaded with Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows
2000 Professional.

The IBM UltraPort Camera II is available now, and the UltraPort Compact
Flash Reader will be available March 31 at a price of 66 UK Pounds. The
UltraPort IrDA Module will be available next month; and the UltraPort
Digital Array Microphone will be available in June; All prices quoted are
Web list price.

Wireless Capability

These new IBM ThinkPad models are network ready with modem and Ethernet
ports standard. Users seeking the freedom of wireless computing can easily
add the optional 802.11b IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card 128 for
wireless networking (an optional IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Access Point
is also available and necessary in order to enable wireless networking) or
the Bluetooth PC Card from IBM for short-range wireless capability.

IBM also offers a ThinkPad Dock and a ThinkPad Port Replicator, which can
be used across these new A, T and X Series models.
