World’s largest tour operator implements MGI imaging technology to enhance online customer experience
CeBIT, Hanover, 22 March 2001: MGI, a leader in visual media software products and infrastructure, today announced that TUI, the world’s largest tour operator, has implemented MGI’s Zoom Image Server technology on its web site at www.tui.de, in order to provide its customers with zoom-enabled, 360-degree interactive panoramic views of TUI’s most popular holiday destinations.
The Zoom Image Server platform, combined with MGI’s ‘immersive’ panoramic imaging technology, provides TUI’s online customers with a detailed, interactive tour of their chosen holiday location, including virtual walk-throughs of selected hotels.
MGI Zoom Image Server allows even the smallest details on a web site to be viewed up close, clearly and quickly, without the need for high bandwidth connections or plug-ins.
The virtual tours on the TUI web site were designed by INXS-Media, based in Friedrichshafen, Germany. Over the past six months, the project team, led by Michael Hansky, has photographed 150 hotels around the world, and produced virtual tours for integration into the TUI site. The project is ongoing, and currently 50 hotels tours have been implemented online.
Stephen Mold, MGI’s managing director, Europe, said, “Our technology provides an unrivalled online experience. With just one click of the mouse, a visitor can fly to a selected holiday destination, look around a beach and holiday resort without any restrictions, enter a hotel, view the bedrooms – and even zoom into the restaurant menu or examine the quality of the bed linen! If the visitor then chooses to book the holiday, everything will be familiar. No unpleasant surprises on arrival, and a satisfied customer!”
