CeBIT, Hanover, Germany, 22. March 2001.

MATERNA Information & Communications is presenting products and solutions from all aspects of the Anny Way telecommunications brand at CeBIT 2001 in Hall 25, Stand E40. Anny Way is celebrating her birthday at CeBIT 2001. The MATERNA stand will be offering a colourful cocktail of telecommunications solutions such as mobile payment, wireless ASPs, multimedia messaging services and unified messaging solutions.

Security for virtual shopping

The Anny Way mobile payment solution turns a mobile ‘phone into a catalogue and wallet for Internet shopping. Goods and services are ordered using a mobile phone number in conjunction with a personal identification number (PIN). The charge is put on the mobile ‘phone bill. The purchase is completed through the Anny Way computing centre; which acts as the interface both between the customer, the shop and the network operator.

Co-operation for mobile company solutions

MATERNA is offering mobile add-on solutions for the new .NET Enterprise Server from Microsoft. The Mobile Information Server permits wireless access to company networks or intranet content. MATERNA's service is based on the Anny Way Information Center (AIC). This platform allows users to send and receive SMS messages in all European and Asian countries via a secure VPN connection (Virtual Private Network). The software solution, Anny Way WAP Server from MATERNA, extends and optimises the password features of the new Microsoft product, automatically registering user identity and user hardware so that users do not have to re-register when accessing via various network services.

Communication through fixed lines using SMS

In conjunction with Siemens, MATERNA is demonstrating how SMS messages can also be sent from one fixed-line ‘phone to another, and from fixed-line connections to mobile ‘phones. The Anny Way Information Center (AIC) processes the messages and forwards them to the selected telephone. An analogue fixed-line connection is all that is needed to receive the SMS message. Siemens are providing the necessary hardware with a new telephone.

Mobile phones "write" to fixed lines

Customers of the e-Plus mobile ‘phone network have been able to send SMS messages to fixed lines since last year with clients of D2-Vodafone able to use this service from today. With SMS-to-Speech, sold by MATERNA under the Anny Way brand, the SMS text is converted into a speech file. This allows fixed-line customers to receive SMS messages that can then be played back.

Pictures and sound for short messages

With EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service) and Magic4-based services the quantity of data that can be contained in short messages is expanded. Mobile ‘phone users can send messages over 160 characters long and add black-and-white graphics, formatted text or polyphonic sounds. It also becomes possible to load barcodes for flight or entrance tickets.

Video conferencing by mobile phone

MATERNA is demonstrating the SMS of the future with MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service). With this value-added service it is possible to send and receive text, image, music files and video documents in real time. MATERNA is developing the infrastructure and various applications for this.

WAP push pushes WAP

The WAP Push service from MATERNA offers mobile phone customers the opportunity to subscribe to WAP services for the first time. In this way, companies or service providers can provide their customers with personalised WAP services to which the mobile phone user can react directly. MATERNA is demonstrating an e-mail notification system using WAP Push at CeBIT. The message appears as an SMS that contains the subject of the e-mail. The receiver can now decide whether they want to read the whole message. The electronic letter can be processed in a variety of ways with a simple click.

Loading ring tones onto your mobile phone - automatically

Visitors to Anny Way at CeBIT 2001 can personalise their mobile ‘phones by downloading logos and ring tones from the first logo and ring tone vending machine, developed and patented by HW Automaten GmbH, Ratingen.

Customers can select the product they want through an 18” flat touch screen and then pay with coins. Just a few minutes later the product is on the mobile phone. HW Automaten plans to install 100 of these machines soon in major city centres throughout Germany.

Unified Messaging with Voice over IP

MATERNA has extended the Anny Way Office Edition with Voice over IP. Version 4.0 of the unified messaging solution (UM) from MATERNA combines IP telephony with fax, voice- and e-mail as well as WAP services and SMS through a single user interface. This allows users to exploit the full range of UM services in the Office environment without installing TC equipment. External company branches can use this solution allows branch offices to become integrated into the central UM system at greatly reduced cost.

Strategic alliance to market wireless data technology

MATERNA and Golden Bridge Technology, Inc. (GBT) have announced a strategic alliance to market the 3rd Generation Packet Radio Service (3GPRS), the UMTS standard for packet data services. 3GPRS uses GBT’s Common Packet Channel (CPCH) protocol to greatly enhance the downlink and uplink spectrum efficiency.
