Hong Kong Treasury Orders Bi-Lingual, Multi-host Connectivity system from Network Designers Monday 26 March 2001 PDF Print March 23rd, 2001 – Yorkshire, UK –The Hong Kong Treasury has ordered an initial 250-concurrent session Active Terminal Server system from UK based Network Designers with more to follow. Active Terminal Server (ATS) provides desktop connectivity for users of mainframe and mid-range host applications, from the user's Web browser, without the need to install software on each user’s desktop. The Hong Kong Treasury will be using ATS to access key information on both ICL and IBM mainframes, where presentation of the Application data to the user has to be in both English and Chinese. The Treasury are also looking to Network Designers to resolve a similar requirement for Unix based Applications that require Chinese support. Active Terminal Server solves the long recognised problem of cost of ownership traditionally associated with PC based software. Now users can connect to host systems without having to install client-based software on each desktop. Connection to ICL and IBM mainframes, AS/400, Unix systems or MDIS PICK systems is now possible from the ubiquitous browser. Michael Anderson, International business development manager at Network Designers stated; "The Hong Kong Treasury has been a customer of ours for many years, but this represents their first use of both our Thin Client technology and IBM connectivity. Without Active Terminal Server, The Hong Kong Treasury would have had to use different products from many suppliers to achieve this level of functionality. Active Terminal Server provides a total solution. In addition, The Hong Kong Treasury no longer have to visit each remote desktop to effect system changes. Instead, everyday ‘system maintenance’ can be carried out from one central location."
