ELATA ANNOUNCES RELATIONSHIP WITH iPLANET
- elata senses platform integrates iPlanet's server solutions to deliver and manage information to a range of fixed and mobile devices -
March 27th, 2001 - elata plc, a UK based software company, today announced a relationship with iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions in which elata will integrate iPlanet's Directory Server, Web and Application Server solutions with the elata senses platform. The combination of iPlanet and elata's technologies offers network operators a unique scalable infrastructure to manage and distribute all types of information, including data services, applications, multimedia and advertisements, to a wide variety of fixed and mobile devices.
elata senses is a flexible information management solution which combines, management and distribution technology with portalisation and personalisation, into one easy-to-use, operator-grade platform. Current alternatives require the complex integration of a number of proprietary solutions, which are limited to certain types of device and also have scalability restrictions. Being Java based, elata senses is both device and platform independent.
The combined elata senses and iPlanet solution will offer network operators six key benefits:
- a complete fully integrated platform for the collection, interrogation, management and distribution of information
- flexibility to deliver targeted and personalised information to any Internet connected device
- information delivery for new revenue streams
- seamless interoperability with existing infrastructure
- ease of use
"By harnessing iPlanet's leadership in e-commerce solutions with the advanced information management capabilities of the elata senses platform, network operators now have an efficient means to collect, interrogate and distribute information to their business and personal customers, irrelevant of the device or the user's location. said: Matt Hooper, director of marketing and customer support, elata plc "This combined solution, ensures that the foundations for innovative and timely revenue generating services are laid firmly at the feet of both network operators and enterprises."
"By integrating the iPlanet Directory, Web and Application Server solutions with elata senses, our customers are able to rapidly deploy and manage information to any connected device. This powerful addition to our solution portfolio comes at a time when the requirement to manage information delivery is becoming a major concern for IT managers." said: Mark Salter, partner manager, UK & Ireland, iPlanet. "Whether it is an enterprise that wants to distribute information throughout its organisation or a network operator seeking to add-value and generate revenue from its customer base, iPlanet and elata offer an end-to-end solution."

About elata senses
elata senses is a Java based, platform independent framework for the management and delivery of all types of information, including applications, documents, advertisements, multimedia and data services, to fixed and mobile devices. There are three components to the elata senses solution: the Manager Tool, the Server and the Device Pack. elata senses allows the system administrator to model the subscriber base using a familiar graphical interface and target information to individual users or to groups using a simple drag and drop process. This enables the administrator to automatically provision, install and, where necessary, remove information in the correct format for the device and with no user intervention. The elata senses device-side software interprets the different types of data services or applications to determine how the device manages the information and how it is installed. At pre-determined intervals, a small piece of device-side code compares the current kn!
own profile against the profile stored in the elata senses Server. Any new or updated content is automatically retrieved and installed, and any defunct content is removed. Unlike competitor offerings, elata senses encompasses content and device management, plus portalisation and is fully scalable, network independent and 3G GPRS/UMTS ready. There is no other framework available today that has either the level of function or scalability of elata senses.
elata senses has been developed to address the needs of:
- Network Operators - by allowing operators to provide tailored information, services and applications to GSM handsets, WAP phones, Symbian, Palm, and Java applications on MExE compliant handsets. This enables the operator to generate new revenue streams, increase user loyalty through offering personalised information and help recoup the investment on 3G.
- Enterprises - by mirroring the corporate structure, elata senses can manage the distribution of information from the back office to mobile devices, PC's and browsers giving the enterprise complete control of the delivery of company information to support remote working and enhance employee effectiveness.
- Service Providers - by empowering service providers and giving complete control of the distribution channel of information and applications.
