Independent research from Car Price Check reveals leading online retailer has lowered prices
of most popular models while some Internet rivals have actually increased prices
Leading online car retailer OneSwoop (www.oneswoop.com) is overall the cheapest supplier of
new cars to UK consumers, according to a recent report into price trends conducted by Car
Price Check. The report shows OneSwoop beating both its Internet rivals and UK dealers on
pricing for two thirds (66 per cent) of the top 14 models, including the VW Golf, Ford Focus
and Renault Megane Scenic.
The report concluded that the majority of Internet retailers did not offer a significant
price saving compared to UK dealers, but singled out OneSwoop as an online retailer bucking
this trend. In 86 per cent of comparisons made, OneSwoop was shown to offer a better deal on
price than the UK dealer average. A total of 12 out of the top 14 models were available at a
lower price through OneSwoop. The deals highlighted by Car Price Check included a discount
of 16 per cent on Ford's Focus 1.6 Zetec - a saving of £1,000 on the average quote from a UK
dealer or £1,916 per cent discount on the UK list price.
Tom Buehlmann, marketing director OneSwoop commented, "The research from Car Price Check
highlights that OneSwoop still offers consumers savings of up to 16 per cent on the top 14
most popular models, contradicting the suggestion that the price disparity between all
Internet-based importers and UK dealers is narrowing."
Buehlmann continued, "Some of our competitors appear to be struggling to compete on price,
finding themselves unable to maintain a significant margin as manufacturers gradually reduce
their list prices. Others are being forced to increase prices to fund expensive marketing
campaigns or compensate for lower than expected sales figures. In contrast, the research
highlighted that OneSwoop has reduced prices on all 14 models sampled by as much as 18 per
cent in four months."
In addition, the report highlighted that OneSwoop provided the best deal of all online
retailers on 57 per cent of the top models. OneSwoop was shown to offer the best price for
eight out of the top 14 models surveyed, with its nearest two rivals offering the best deal
on just two models each. For example, Car Price Check reported that OneSwoop offered a 13
per cent discount on the Toyota Yaris 1.0 16v VVTi GS, saving £1,039 on the UK list price - a
9 per cent lower price than from their nearest online rival.
The Car Price check figures analysed the top 14 models searched by 80,000 Internet car buyers
between November and March. The top 14 models in order were: VW Golf, Peugeot 206, Ford
Focus, Citroen, Xsara Picasso, BMW 3 series, Renault Megane Scenic, Ford Ka, Toyota Yaris,
RAV 4, Vauxhall Astra, Audi TT, Seat Leon, Mercedes E Class and Ford Puma.
