The New Synergy SMS Server Puts Corporate Information In The Hands Of Millions of Mobile Employees Globally

London, UK – April 2, 2001 – evolutionB, a leading provider of Web native technology solutions, and its strategic partner Macromedia, today announced the Synergy SMS (Short Message Service) Information Server for Synergy Enterprise and Macromedia ColdFusion customers, allowing them to send and receive corporate information from mobile phones, using quick and cheap text messages.

Synergy and ColdFusion customers are currently enjoying WAP and i-mode access to their critical business information from any wireless device. Using the standalone Synergy SMS Information Server by evolutionB, any ColdFusion or Synergy customers can now quickly add two-way SMS support to their existing ColdFusion applications. This enables a secure SMS query of enterprise data sources such as Synergy (with synchronisation to Outlook, Palm, Lotus Notes, Act) or Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and Oracle. Information templates, that can be customised, are then used to configure the information for SMS transmission back to the source of the request. The Synergy SMS Information Server truly extends wireless device support beyond WAP or I-mode.

The Synergy SMS Server is part of evolutionB’s continuing strategy to provide large and small businesses with cost-effective, powerful, secure and multilingual software applications, which enable their employees to connect to corporate information anytime, anywhere. evolutionB’s ColdFusion-based Synergy application platform has already gained acceptance as a reliable corporate intranet and extranet solution, delivering information to the desktop or to mobile employees via the WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) or i-mode wireless protocols. Pitney Bowes, Caterpillar, Canon, American Airlines, Siemens, Telia, Nikkei, Ford and Sony are some of the organisations using the Synergy application platform today.

“evolutionB has created a compelling solution for ColdFusion users to take advantage of SMS, a technology that is clearly hitting its stride,” said George Favaloro, VP of business development at Macromedia. “Our developer base now has another approachable and accessible tool to utilise for entry into the enormous market that wireless represents. Furthermore, the fact that the evolutionB product itself is built on top of ColdFusion, and will be adopted by partners such as Nokia and BlueTel, underpins the value proposition of ColdFusion as a scalable, reliable, and robust server platform. We are very excited by the potential of this product.”

The Mobile Data Association (MDA) recently announced that over 900 million text messages were sent throughout the UK during January 2001. Today’s announcement of the Synergy SMS Information Server will enable employees with mobile phones or PDAs to send and receive corporate information, using the highly efficient and cost-effective SMS (Short Message Service) format.

“Nokia provides groundbreaking technologies to mobile users around the world. For maximum productivity, the mobile devices must be supported by equally groundbreaking software,” said Steffen Krabbenhøft, Nokia Mobilephones. “We are very excited about the Synergy SMS Information Server because Nokia's mobile customers will now enjoy unprecedented functionality with SMS.”

The combination of ColdFusion and the Synergy application platform has provided organisations with the ability to deploy mobile applications including: inventory, sales force automation, CRM, contact directory, scheduling, workflow, dispatching and field service to name a few. The inherent ease-of-use and low usage fee of SMS will provide mobile users of the Synergy SMS Information Server with the best productivity solution available today.

“To date, SMS has been largely used for simple messaging,” said Jayson Woodbridge, CEO of evolutionB. “The Synergy SMS Information Server takes advantage of the combined strength of Macromedia’s ColdFusion, evolutionB’s Synergy platform, and the enormous worldwide usage of SMS, to deliver relevant corporate information anytime, anywhere.”
