New Performance Management Software to Monitor Performance and Availability
of Web-based Services and Applications

Marimba, Inc, a leading provider of systems management solutions built for
e-business, today increased its breadth of systems management offerings by
unveiling its plans to provide a performance management product family.
This suite of tools will be built upon an XML-based infrastructure that
utilises the latest open standards Web technologies to provide a
comprehensive monitoring foundation. Marimba will set a new standard by
providing enterprise management groups the ability to structure a monitoring
solution tailored specifically for their performance management

The first member of this product family - the Marimba Web Traffic Monitor -
will provide a real-time service-level view of the performance and
availability of Web-enabled services and applications. The Web Traffic
Monitor allows enterprises to react in real time to Web performance
degradation issues, increasing the reliability and availability of online

"Since my first day at Marimba, the focus has been to grow the business and
take us to the next level," said John Olsen, president and chief executive
officer of Marimba. "The existing beachhead we've established in change
management positions us for success in performance management. Today's
e-businesses cannot afford to have their Web-based applications running
slowly, or to hear from their customers that transactions have failed. It's
mission-critical to have real-time updates to be competitive in today's

Bill Gassman, senior analyst at Gartner in Stamford, Connecticut, said,
"Real-time monitoring of user response time and network throughput is
increasing in importance. Business managers and IT operations staff alike
benefit from a better understanding of the performance their external Web
users are seeing."

There is a market gap for tools that monitor and analyse the Web performance
of e-business applications and services. It is significant that Marimba, a
systems management provider, will be offering a performance tool because, as
a company, it can support its customers in scaling to and managing enormous
volumes of applications in today's e-business environment.

Performance Management Product Family
Marimba's new performance management product family will monitor critical
online services to help enterprises maintain optimal performance and
minimise costly downtime. The performance management product family will
leverage Marimba's extensive Internet expertise providing customers with
competitive advantages within the market.

Marimba Web Traffic Monitor
Marimba's Web Traffic Monitor will provide customers with a monitoring
solution that is non-intrusive and easy to deploy. By using a
network-centric approach, Marimba's products will allow administrators to
collect critical Web-based application performance data that can be
centrally stored and relationally accessible for real-time alerting,
reporting, trend analysis, and capacity planning. Engineered for enterprise
Internet data centres, this initial Web-monitoring product will provide a
host of Internet service and application monitoring features that will help
operations personnel better manage system and application performance.

With Marimba's Web Traffic Monitor, IT personnel will be able to monitor
real and simulated Web-based transactions, providing an accurate alerting
and reporting solution that monitors network traffic. The Web Traffic
Monitor will use a passive monitoring mechanism that places no load on the
network and frees customers from having to deploy software on their critical
production Web servers. Marimba's Web Traffic Monitor will use industry
standard protocols and messaging transport methods (XML/HTTP), providing a
firewall and network-friendly solution.
