New "Change Management" Product Family Gives Customers Increased Flexibility

Marimba Inc., a leading provider of systems management solutions built for
e-business, today announced it has modularised its existing Castanet® and
Timbale(tm) technologies into three product families: Server Management,
Desktop/Mobile Management, and Embedded Management. Marimba also today
announced significant new product enhancements that will include additional
Windows 2000 integration points, new PDA management support, and increased
efficiency and reliability in the delivery of applications and content.

"Marimba is reaffirming its commitment to its customers by modularising and
enhancing our Castanet and Timbale product lines," said John Olsen,
president and chief executive officer of Marimba. "Our new streamlined
product lines give our customers the kind of flexibility and versatility
they demand to solve their most difficult IT challenges."

"Businesses need to speed the time to market for their e-business
initiatives while reducing costs by automating management tasks," said Paul
Mason, group vice president of infrastructure software at IDC in Framingham,
Massachusetts. "Marimba's new product family provides targeted solutions
for three areas using the same, consistent underlying technology
infrastructure.Neal Goldman, director of Internet computing strategies at
The Yankee Group in Boston, Massachusetts, added, "Marimba listened to its
customers and realigned and enhanced its products to better fit the way they
buy and use Marimba's products. By modularising the change management
products, customers can reduce costs associated with downtime and increase
efficiency by automating management tasks."

Change Management Product Families
Based on traditional Castanet and Timbale core technologies, Marimba is
providing customers with greater options, greater flexibility and enhanced
functionality when utilising a change management product.

*Server Management Product Family
Based on its server management expertise, Marimba's server management
product family is an enterprise-level change management solution that is
used by Global 2000 enterprises and service providers, who must efficiently
and reliably deliver applications, content, and e-business services to their
customers, employees, and business partners. The product family contains
server management solutions that enable customers to precisely control how,
when, and where content and applications are distributed and activated
across heterogeneous platforms running Windows NT, Solaris, and Linux, as
well as other UNIX servers, located anywhere in the world. The foundation
for Marimba's Server management solution is the Infrastructure module. It is
complemented by the Software Distribution, Content Distribution, Inventory
Management, and Windows Terminal Server (WTS) modules.

The new and enhanced functionalities to this product family, to be delivered
in the second quarter of 2001, include:

*Extended support for packaging and automated installation of custom and
shrink-wrapped web and
commerce applications running on top of Microsoft Internet Information
Server (IIS)

*Delegation of administrative roles to allow multiple administrators to
manage operational tasks and server deployments

*Support for SOAP, a lightweight, XML based protocol for exchange of
information in a decentralised, distributed environment. The new SOAP
interface will allow customers to integrate the Server Management product
family more tightly with existing backend systems and web-based management
tools.

*Integration modules for streamlined integration with existing IT
infrastructure components such as load balancers and caching
servers/appliances

*Added support for the collection of Windows Management Instrumentation
(WMI) data to provide detailed system information to IT departments for
tracking server hardware and software configurations

*Desktop and Mobile Management Product Family
The desktop and mobile management product family enables enterprises to gain
tighter control over desktops, laptops, and mobile systems. This product
family provides IT professionals with the ability to deliver, update,
manage, and repair applications across intranets, extranets and the
Internet. Additionally, it leverages the Internet to provide corporations
with a more effective means of delivering and managing custom and
shrink-wrapped applications that are constantly updated with new features
and data. The foundation for Marimba's desktop and mobile management
solution is the Infrastructure module. It is complemented by the Software
Distribution, Inventory Management, and Subscription Management modules.

Marimba products continue to be a leading management solution for Windows
2000 environments, and Marimba plans to enhance its solution to integrate
even more tightly with Microsoft desktop and server technologies. In
addition to the existing robust functionality that the desktop and mobile
management product family provides for Windows 2000 environments, the new
features that Marimba plans to provide customers include:

*Added support for the collection of Windows Management Instrumentation
(WMI) data to provide detailed system information to IT departments for
tracking desktop and mobile hardware and software configurations. WMI
support will be delivered in Q2 of 2001.

*Extended support for Active Directory integration and Group Policies to
allow corporations to take full advantage of all the information stored
within Active Directory and the flexibility of the Subscription module.
Active Directory support will be delivered in Q2 of 2001.

*PDA management support for the Palm and Windows CE operating systems to
allow corporations to purchase and implement an end-to-end solution for
managing desktops, laptops, mobile systems and PDAs. PDA management support
will be delivered in Q3 of 2001

*Embedded Management Product Family
Marimba's embedded management product family provides developers with the
necessary tools to create self-updating applications that run on PCs,
devices, and appliances. By embedding self-update capabilities into their
applications, developers are able to deliver new features and services to
customers on an ongoing basis. The foundation for Marimba's embedded
management solution is the Infrastructure module. It is complemented by the
UpdateNow SDK module and Hosted services.

Marimba's Hosted services will allow customers to focus on their application
features and functionality rather than the back-end infrastructure by
outsourcing their application delivery and update infrastructure. The
combination of the UpdateNow SDK and Hosted services will help decrease time
to market and increase competitive advantages.
