Cable & Wireless, the global telecommunications group, announced today
(3 April 2001) that it will take over management of all fixed data and
voice communications for Group 4 Falck, the international security and
related services company. The outsourcing agreement is potentially worth
£10 million over three years and reinforces Cable and Wireless' position
as a leader in the outsourced management of multi site data and voice

Through the outsourcing agreement, Group 4 Falck will benefit from
having reliable communications across its 60 UK sites at a reduced
overall cost to the company. At the same time Group 4 Falck is freed to
focus on developing its core businesses.

During the course of the contract Cable & Wireless will migrate Group 4
Falck's Frame Relay data technology onto an Internet Protocol (IP) based
Virtual Private Network (VPN) giving Group 4 Falck a reliable network
that can grow with the business. It will also be an option for Group 4
Falck to convert its traditional voice technology to a Voice over IP
(VoIP) system which would run on the data VPN network and enable Group 4
Falck to reduce costs further, by running one, combined data and voice

"By outsourcing our communications to Cable & Wireless, we aim to
improve our service quality in the most cost-effective way and convert
communications into a strategic asset," said Chris Elliott, Financial
Director at Group 4 Falck Global Solutions Limited. "We chose Cable &

project management at a competitive price. We believe that we will be
able to develop our relationship with Cable & Wireless into a long-term

Under the single supplier agreement, Cable & Wireless will develop and
maintain all Group 4 Falck's fixed data and voice networks and on-site
radio. This includes the company-wide Virtual Private Network (VPN),
Fixed Mobile Integration (FMI), the Frame network and Telebusiness
numbers. Cable & Wireless will also handle the billing for Group 4
Falck's mobile phone and pager services, provided by Vodafone.

"We are delighted to announce this major UK contract that demonstrates
clearly the benefits offered by Cable & Wireless outsourcing," added
Robin Schlee, Senior Vice President, Client Solutions at Cable &
Wireless. "We work with businesses to provide reliable communications
