Keynote Address to iEB Reveals Technology That Enables Instantaneous,
Trading Relationships

Ed McVaney, founder and chief executive officer of J.D. Edwards today described the company's technology to enable "any-to-any" collaborative commerce. With this technology, companies will establish electronic connections to their customers, suppliers, and business partners "on the fly," in two hours or less, as a means to automate business relationships, reduce costs, increase revenues, enhance customer loyalty and improve profits.

McVaney provided details as Tuesday morning’s keynote speaker at one of the world's largest events showcasing the latest B2B products, strategies and technologies: Gartner's Internet and e-Business Conference and Expo in New York.

McVaney noted that collaborative commerce extends well beyond technology, affecting company organisation, culture, skill set, training, and management. "Technology is the starting point to accelerate the process, but successful collaborative commerce will belong to those companies whose management recognises the holistic changes that must occur for a company to achieve true, lasting competitive advantage through c-commerce, the next phase of e-business,” McVaney explained.

Gartner, a research firm that helps companies achieve their business objectives through the intelligent and efficient use of technology, previously stated that collaborative commerce would become the predominant B2B application model by 2004. AMR Research, a competing firm, predicts that most of the $5.7 trillion in Internet commerce by 2004 will pass through private exchanges (another way to describe c-commerce).

"We are creating a complete set of pre-configured, collaborative B2B applications that will support any-to-any connectivity in a simple, expeditious manner and serve to strengthen the personal relationships among businesses," McVaney said. "Competitive advantage in a period of economic unpredictability belongs to those companies that enjoy real-time communication with customers and suppliers, complete visibility across the supply network for all participants, and a real-time ability to shift execution strategy to accommodate changes in supply and demand."
