Cable & Wireless is the overall winner of the Monnet-sponsored ECTA
Quality of Service Award. It won the international award following a
competition organised by Monnet and ECTA for European carriers. The
result was announced at ECTA 2001 in Barcelona yesterday.
Now in its second year the competition took on a truly competitive
flavour with individual awards in five geographical categories - the
Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. GNT won the Americas
region and Cable & Wireless won the remaining categories as well as top
honours for overall best carrier.
Entrants to the competition were tested over a week long period for
voice call quality, using non-intrusive monitoring technology to all
global destinations involving the measurement of millions of calls to
fixed voice and mobile services. All participants received a
confidential, quality of service report, as well as a comparison to
Monnet's QoS Benchmark - allowing them to assess their performance to
all these destinations against the industry average.
