Collaboration with world-recognised instructor and power design expert
Dr. Ray Ridley enables faster and more sophisticated power supply
ON Semiconductor today launched a series of European power supply
seminars, building on the success of the seminars held in the United
States during the last four months. Partnering with Dr. Ray Ridley of
Ridley Engineering, ON Semiconductor is offering two days of application
specific training to engineers designing power supplies and power
ON Semiconductor selected Dr. Ridley, one of the top consultants in the
power electronics industry, to collaborate with the company's in-house
technical expertise to support power supply engineers by using his
proven design expertise, software tools, and tool development efforts.
Dr. Ridley's services will be available to ON Semiconductor for a
two-year period and include lectures with ON Semiconductor's
applications engineers on power management topics, as well as power
conversion EDA software enhancements to Ridley Engineering's successful
Power 4-5-6 EDA software.
"With the limited availability of analogue designers with extensive
experience in this area, learning the tricks of the trade from an
expert, such as Dr. Ray Ridley will prove to be valuable to both
designers and their companies.", said Dominique Dumortier, Director of
ON Semiconductor's Analog Division in Europe, Middle East and Africa
(EMEA). "Through our European design centres located in Toulouse and
Grenoble, France and Roznov pod Radhostem, Czech Republic, we offer our
customers system knowledge and product design expertise focussed at
developing intelligent power management systems for portable and
wireless applications as well as computers and any appliance used to
access the Internet."
The European switching power supply design seminars continue the series
of seminars started in San Jose in December last year and will be held
in London, England and Munich, Germany:
- June 25-26, 2001 - The New Connaught Rooms - London, England;
- July 4-5, 2001 - Hilton Munich Park - Munich, Germany.
"Leading products like our new NCP1200 PWM Current-Mode Controller,
developed in our European design centres, demonstrate our company's
continuing strategy to lead the power management market," said Alistair
Banham, President and General Manager of the Europe, Middle East and
Africa (EMEA) region at ON Semiconductor. "The initiative underlines our
position as second largest supplier for power supply and power
management integrated circuits in 2000 in Europe (*)".
The topics presented on the first day of the seminar include modelling,
magnetics, power stage characteristics and voltage/current-mode feedback
loop design. The topics addressed on the second day will be flyback
topology, multiphase buck converters and power factor correction
pre-converters. The seminar cost is EURO 105 excluding VAT, with pricing
varying by country. Included in the fee, attendees of the seminar will
receive production copies of Dr. Ridley's Power 4-5-6 software, the only
power supply design software on the market today that offers components
design, large-signal simulation feedback control design and small-signal
analysis in one package.
